Online shopping

I have done quite a bit of shopping on-line, and have had good experiences so far. Most of the shops I've used are USA based, but I would use a shop in SA to save on shipping if the prices were right.

Currently, the only SA on-line shop I know is Cycle Lab, but I don't see any advantage in price compared to the LBS. Also, their range is pretty limited. The overseas shops offer almost everything, from built up bikes to build kits, individual components and accessories.

Steve, it sounds like a good idea, especially if it would be "area of world" specific, ie.....ppl in the Eastern US would be able to purchase via an Eastcoast supplier, ppl in the Western US of course from a Westcoast Supplier, ppl in UK.....etc etc....

Let me know if you set something up..

If a cycling forums related bike store would deliver internationally I would consider dealing with them.

Being new to cycling forum, but an old hat to shopping on the net it seems to come down to a few (but potentially challenging) issues:
-price: can you be competitive
-reliable: can we get what is advertised, promised are things always out of stock/backordered
-shipping: how long do I have to wait for my new "can't live without it toy"

By the way, thanks for THIS particular site. It's been very helpful to me and others I suspect. Keep the rubber side down.

I'm glad there is such a great selection of domestic online cycling stores here in the U.S. Its kind of ironic though because compared to other countries, cycling is not as big a deal to the average Joe in the U.S.

But then again, there are a lot of (non-Average Joes here)

Unfortunately, I have been forced to rely on online stores since I am not interested in moutain bikes. LBS in this area has mountain bikes, a few tandems (EVEN MB-TANDEMS!!!) A couple "beach cruiser" looking bikes, and that's it. Road bikes don't seem to exist anymore. I can't remember the last time I saw one in a shop.

As for a cyclingforums store, That *could* be excellent, esp. with the potential for feedback and review of products. However, if this involved banner ads and nonsense, I would simply no longer visit cyclingforums. If the service were available, yet not loudly advertised and thrust on people, then it would be worthwhile.
