Saw Lance's mum last night on the local news. She said that there are already over 15 million of the bracelets around, and that there will be 20 million before too much longer. When Nike came up with the idea they figured that about 2 million bracelets would be plenty. At this point they have shipped bracelets to all 50 states and to over 60 countries. She also said that a tally by the folks at the foundation indicates that something like 70% of the people wearing one are doing it in support of someone who has cancer.

I really adore his mom, she looks young enough to be his girlfriend! She is one hell of a lady....I read the story of how she had him and she is really a woman to be admired. I wear my Livestrong bracelet in memory of ly father, who died of lung and bone cancer 6 years ago. My kids wear theirs for the same reason, and my husband wears his in memory of his mother, who died this year from lung cancer.

Anyone who ordered in Europe? Did you pay anything else at taking over or just Total prize at order?

As a person currently living with cancer it infuriates me to see people on ebay profiting from such a noble cause. People on ebay are still bidding $10 or more for these bracelets......I just received my order of bracelets today, I want to offer to my friends on this forum for $2 a piece to cover my cost. I also work closely with Team in Training program here in San Jose and help to fundraise. If you would like to pledge a donation to the Leukemia and Lymphoma society of $10 or more I will forward the entire amount to the Leukemia and Lymphoma society on your behalf and send you the bracelet at no additional charge. Please make the check out to "Leukemia and Lymphoma Society". Thanks and LiveStrong, |

Mike, this totally infuriates me also....and the fact that many want the bracelets as a fad thing, or because movie stars wear them. My son came home in tears a few days ago because one kid he sold a bracelet to for a dollar bragged that he resold it for 5. My son felt it was his fault and I said, no, you can't be responsible for what greedy people do with them. We have a rule now with the kids at his school: only one per person. That way if they intend to resell, they know they can't get another one from us. Its sad to have to do this. ![]()

I got mine from a very nice lady (and cancer survivor) in Kansas who offered to send me a couple after a plea on the VeloNews TDF forum. At that time, you couldn't get them here in the UK and the LAF website was trying to charge $40 postage to ship them to me....
I have worn it constantly since I got it and have had several offers from people wanting to buy it off me - I wouldn't even consider doing that, though. I don't wear it in memory of anyone, and I admit I only originally wanted one because of Lance, but I now realise that every day I wear it and someone asks me about it, I'm raising awareness of the fight against cancer - which has to be a good thing. I've also pointed quite a few folk in the direction of the shops that are selling them here in Edinburgh now. |

I ordered mine on 05 Sep 04 and received them this past Saturday 02 Oct 04. I ordered a shirt too. Finally I am wearing one for the cause. My mom is currently in remission from Stage III Ovarian Cancer. 3 more years to go to hit the 5 year mark. She fought and beat breast cancer that showed itself in 88.
I emailed LAF about an Auction on Ebay. (This Link) The guy was selling the wristbands using the LAF and Lance's name for another foundation. Here is a reply back from the LAF in regards to this. ------ Thank you for supporting our campaign and the Lance Armstrong Foundation. We appreciate it so much. We are also very dismayed that wristbands are being sold on eBay. We are currently working on the problem with eBay. eBay is taking down auctions that say they benefit the LAF, since that has generally not been the case. Unfortunately, other auctions are not illegal - just plain unethical. We are hoping to have an LAF store on eBay in the future to halt the problem. We encourage people not to buy or sell wristbands not from our Web site at www.laf.org and I am constantly discussing the issue with reporters. At this time, we are doing the best we can to address the issue. We appreciate your concern very much and we are proud to have supporters like you. My son came up with an idea that MIGHT serve to halt the profiteer sales of the bracelets.
He suggested that the LAF, when they make the bracelets from now on, imprint the price ($1.00) and the name/addy of the LAF inside the bracelet. That way, anyone who buys them from Ebay will see it, realize they were ripped, maybe send them back and demand a refund, and the profiteers may then realize its not worth it. Do you think?

Virenque... I don't know. A couple of other ppl I know ordered at least 2 weeks before I did and they still didn't get their stuff either. Maybe it's because I ordered a T-Shirt too!?!?!
Hellonwheels... you should send that idea to the LAF. ![]() |

Actually, I did! No response yet. Even if it doesn't work with the Ebay scalpers, it would be a good idea for ppl who want bracelets, just copy the addy down from the inside of the one their friend, etc is wearing. I've met SO many ppl who had one, but didn't know where to tell ppl to get more because someone gave the one they have to them.

Whoa Virenque.... I just noticed your in Slovenia. That could be a part of the reason. Did you order them directly from www.wearyellow.com?
Ah, Slovenia. I was in Koper last year when the USS Roosevelt anchored off off shore. I had an awesome time there. I wanted to go to the Lipizzaner Farm in Lipica, but the tour tickets sold out before I could get one. |

I don't know what ever happened to him. The hospitality was the best thing. Locals just coming up and asking us questions about the Navy and the U.S. The food was great too. And the women were beautiful. One thing is for sure, you all are proud of your ice cream, aren't ya? I went to Izola and Piran just to sight see and the rest of the time I went to Portoroz. Gotta love the Casino. ![]() |
