If you dont use one how do you measure how hard you go???? They are cheap and reasonably good..
I have used one for years and recently bought a power meter....... If you get one dont treat it as a fancy watch use the damn thing......... |

I have had good luck with the Sigma PC 14. Its $69.99, gives you an alarm, upper and lower settings, and average HR. Its easy to set up and easy to use. Only beef is that the backlight will only function when the button is held down. So for night riding you need an extra light mounted above it. If you arent training at night this shouldnt be a concern. www.the-bike-shop.com/training

I've got the basic Sigma Sport which just reads HR and it's worked fine too for over 5000 miles now. Believe it was $39 on sale.
Had the beeping features on my first HRM, but found I just didn't use them. |

I have started off using a A5 polar HRM which I just put on my bike next to the computer. It has been great tracking the progess, but only problem is that you see all the other functions on the better models and now I want them!

I just ordered a polar s725 because o fthis site for $275.00 shipped. If anyone is interested, this company www.polardiscount.com (which is a authorised polar dealer) will match the price of this company http://www.jomashop.com/polar-s725.html, which is not a authorised reseller.
I have no affiliation with either, but it may save someone a bit of $$ ![]() |

Haven't found an accurate one yet so what good are they?

Mines acurate! its an old cardiosport Exel over 10yrs old and still going strong, best thing about it is the chest strap works with my I magic, which is a bonus the computer displays exactly the same as the watch so can't be that bad. |

I must be a freak of nature then cause I tried two different Polar HRMs and the first one was accurate below 100 but when it said 160 I was actually 196. The second one was supposed to be better I think it was the M32 model and it was worse it was erratic or totally nonfunctional. I've given up on monitors altogether now. It's good to know there are some good ones out there maybe I'll try again some time with cardiosport.

like i pointed out its an old one, over 10yrs old, given to me by a friend in 3para, the only problem with it is you can't upload the data from the watch to the computer like the new cardiosports.
anyhow its simple to use has 30 samples which you can record intervals over 5,15,60 and 300 seconds, personal target zones with audiable alarm and visible indicator for above, below and within your set zones. features: heart rate time of day recordable heart rate sampling recall recorded heart rate elapsed time displayed with heart rate indicator alarms stopwatch target zones set in 1 beat increments target zone indicator water resistant complete with bike adaptor Old reliable and was a great training aid during long distance runs, and occassionally i'll use it on the mtb since that doesn't have heart rate monitor and stuff on the speedo. |

They all have "bar mounting". You just wrap the wrist band around your bar twice, and then just clasp it! :-D |
