That's good news about Beloki. Iban Mayo looks like he's going to be ready for the TdF. Mike |

the horror of severe crashes can't be erased from the mind, I have some that wake me up in the middle of the night. he won't be back, ever, to his previous form. |

Even the one that split my radius lengthwise and broke the ulna in my left arm. Of course, that was nowhere near as severe as what happened to Beloki, nor did I have the misfortune of being able to watch it happen afterward. Instead, my most vivid memories are of spending maybe five minutes going over my bike, looking for damage, before noticing that I wasn't using my left arm and it was hanging at this kinda funny angle. I really hope that Beloki manages a great comeback; that he wakes up one morning and realizes that hey, if he could survive a crash like that and recover enough to even ride a bike, anything's possible. The clock is running though, as far as the TDF is concerned. And then there's Dave Dravecky. I don't know if it would be a good or bad thing for Beloki to think about what he went through! --Mike-- Chain Reaction Bicycles http://www.ChainReactionBicycles.com "Callistus Valerius" <jazzyboss@hotmail.com> wrote in message news eBnc.14409$Hs1.11871@newsread2.news.pas.earthlink.net...> > 42 Joseba Beloki (Spa) Brioches La Boulangere 6.15 > > > the horror of severe crashes can't be erased from the mind, I have some > that wake me up in the middle of the night. he won't be back, ever, to his > previous form. > > |

AHA! It wasn't the drugs that destroyed Marco Pantani ... It was the memory of the 1995 Milan-Turin crash. Or maybe the 1997 black cat crash in the Giro. -- Steven L. Unfortunately, the cancer got to Dave in a much more serious way (loss of the entire arm & shoulder) before turning it back. I got to hear Dave Dravecky speak at our church shortly after his amazing comeback and subsequent broken arm. I can't even begin to describe the inner strength that guy has. And, by all accounts I've heard, one heck of a nice guy. --Mike-- Chain Reaction Bicycles http://www.ChainReactionBicycles.com |

Former San Francisco Giant pitcher, who came back from cancer (forcing the removal of most of the deltoid muscle in his pitching arm) to play pro ball again, until August 15, 1989, when he broke his arm mid-pitch in "the pitch heard 'round the world" ... The crack was so loud it was heard in the stands and on TV. -- Steven L. We'll also hear the soft voice-over questions, can he come back, can this tough little basque return to former glory, etc. On one note, he does seem to be faring a better in races of late than Jan. |
