You forgot to cross post this silly, early season troll to alt.rec.bicycles.recumbent. For shame. |

About half of the female 'bent riders I see lack them. |

Make friends. Smart. First is simple - you don't avoid accidents by turning any sharper than any bike - recumbent or diamond frame - can easily manage. And you avoid nothing by doing a U-turn. Any bike can be rotated in position, with the possible exception of a few tandems. Friends? You laid the groundwork. On the other hand, perhaps we're all missing his point, and what he's really against is people who sell things from their bikes. It _is_ rather rude to make a sale from your bicycle seat without even standing up to greet your customers. |

>so ridiculous as bicycles with lazyass seats so the rider can sit back >and peddle. if you wanna sit lazily on your ass, sit in a couch. >what's with these damn yuppies with their latest dumb craze? > Those are called recumbants. Recumbant riders are not necessarily lazier then diamond frame riders. It takes pretty much the same amount of energy to power both. Recumbants probably have an edge in wind resistance but lose that edge in extra weight. A friend of mine shifted from his beloved diamond frame to a recumbant because he had prostate surgery and it was either a ride a recumbant or not cycle at all. I have heard that for people with back problems, recumbants often are much more tolerable then diamond frames. Of course, I have never heard of anyone getting a saddle sore on a recumbant. I would not call recumbants a "dumb craze". They have a legitimate use of a certain subset of cyclists. Shoot if someone prefers recumbants to diamond frames just out a preference, that is fine with me. |
