We aren't talking about speed records here, just your average recumbant rider who AROUND HERE is old
and overweight. On another note that list contains MOSTLY riders who were around their prime as
upright road racers.

Well...since the OP was an obvious troll, I figured a troll reply was in
order.

Even though the OP was clearly a troll, I'm always amazed when I pass
a 'bent rider who doesn't have a beard. ;-)

I find it odd that you have this eroneous perception. I can only surmise
that you own and ride one and when you look in your mirror through your rose
colored Brikos, you see a super-fit champion with 1% body fat! LOL

No harm, carry on.

You forgot to cross post this silly, early season troll to
alt.rec.bicycles.recumbent.

For shame.

But it DOES happen, doesn't it? About half of the female 'bent riders I
see lack them.

The real world contains curbs, potholes, bouncing balls, dogs, and
morons in motor-vehicles.

I'd say you're just lucky. I do note that you can't bring yourself to
claim that recumbents allow as sharp of turns as diamonds.

First is simple - you don't avoid accidents by turning any sharper
than any bike - recumbent or diamond frame - can easily manage. And
you avoid nothing by doing a U-turn. Any bike can be rotated in
position, with the possible exception of a few tandems.

Friends? You laid the groundwork. Talk about what you know, not about
what you think you may have some inkling - especially when you don't.

On the other hand, perhaps we're all missing his point, and what he's really
against is people who sell things from their bikes. It _is_ rather rude to
make a sale from your bicycle seat without even standing up to greet your
customers.

Those are called recumbants.

Recumbant riders are not necessarily lazier then diamond frame riders. It
takes pretty much the same amount of energy to power both. Recumbants probably
have an edge in wind resistance but lose that edge in extra weight.

A friend of mine shifted from his beloved diamond frame to a recumbant because
he had prostate surgery and it was either a ride a recumbant or not cycle at
all.

I have heard that for people with back problems, recumbants often are much more
tolerable then diamond frames. Of course, I have never heard of anyone getting
a saddle sore on a recumbant.

I would not call recumbants a "dumb craze". They have a legitimate use of a
certain subset of cyclists. Shoot if someone prefers recumbants to diamond
frames just out a preference, that is fine with me.

Me, too, but I've met some rabid people who seem just on the verge of
going to war over it.

Damn, I hadn't even thought of that! You are right, of course. For
courteous peddling you really need a proper upright bklie like this:

The signs on Chicago streets that say "no peddling" next to the bike lane
always make me smile.
