That would be right, yes. HSTs (class 43 or the "125") have
guards' vans. They are mainly seen on FGW and GNER I think.

But it was an HST that had my bike hanging up off a hook.

Hmmmm. Was it one of Mr Branson's? Maybe they've been
refitted (as well as shortened) to be more like Voyagers.

No. It was GNER. The only reason I knew it to be HST was
that was what the platform staff referred to it as when they
explained that I was at the wrong end of the platform.

They've booked me on 10 minutes before departure without any
problems as well.

The Virgin ones only used to have small luggage areas that
shared part of coach A. Maybe there were two types.
