Their drugs don't seem to do much good anyway.

Actually I think we currently run second in the world to the
US in adult obesity and just took first in the number of
hideously lardy kids we're ferrying about in 4WDs so the
little darlings turn into globs of grease and die of heart
attacks at 35.

The biggest factor is Australia's sporting success is that
the gummint spends money on elite sport through the AIS,
whereas, (and I am sure someone will correct me if I have
this wrong) there's no such federal expenditure in the US.

The US gummint generally stays the heck out of sports, even
when it is in the sole position to mediate or legislate
things. The use of performance enhancing drugs is Sporting
Fraud in many countries, but in the US it gets a finger
waggled at it and the gummint only expresses interest in
prosecution of use of outlawed drugs.

The argument goes that the sport will take care of itself.
They do, but sometimes I think a general law on doping or
thuggery would give authorities some teeth, after all,
sports provides a lot of role models. Shame so many of them
aren't very good.

If you think 10 degrees is unpleasantly cold, I think you
forgot a lot from your years in Canada.

Admitatly 10 is upleasent when sitting around doing nothing, but quite nice out on the bike. You get to play 'train' and make steam come out your mouth, may not be funny here but it had a riding partner in stiches a week ago.

One thing I do remember from Canada is the snow. Having only seen it once in Australia, I can say i never want to see the stuff again.

When you go to the footy there's 40 blokes running around on
the oval, (I'm talkiing Aussie footy here), and 40 000
spectators sitting in the stands. Obesity will disappear
when we have 40 000 people running around on the oval and
only 40 people in the stands.

Riding around ten minutes off the back of a peleton when
you're sick, you raced hard earlier this year, and your back
hurts isn't base mileage. It's suicide.
