Well, you've said it all haven't you? You were in Japan, (UHUM!) riding down a highway, and in very heavy traffic. You know what I heard of once? I know it's just a rumor and it's hard to believe that anyone could possibly rear end a car, but.........................................

Now understand that as Johnny NoCom@ pointed out an another site, I am an old fat illigetimate person who rides a bike that is built for comfort not speed, but I can "blow the doors off" other older but skinnier than I duffers who are riding DFs in their lycra cycling clothes. And it really doesn't take any effort. The key to my success is the fact that I am riding a BENT! with a silly grin on my face.

The one I really loved was when a contemperary (similarly aged male) with a skinny tired racing cycle commented that "Bents cannot climb" but then when we climbed an hill to an overpass to cross a four lane road I passed him on the up grade! I guess that some bents can climb.
Who is this Johnny Nocom and why doesn't he pull that DF seat out of his apparently weak glutes? Why not outlaw high pressure tires Johnny? They have an advantage over balloon tires. How bout carbon fiber parts? They are lighter than chromoly. Derailleurs and gears are next. It's not fair to a guy with a one-speed bike. Cheating? What in God's name are you talking about? Do you drive? Well then you're cheating. If God meant for you to move with wheels he'd have put them at the bottom of your ankles. When a bent with fairings is allowed to enter a race with DFs, then you can cry that it's not fair.

Do you use a handsaw instead of an electric? If so you would be cheating by your standards. It's looking like you've been crashing without a helmet. You don't make any sense.

As for the average road bike trails that comprise much of bent and DF riding, well, I routinely pass guys wearing $700.00 of "racing clothing" on road bikes. Just today I blew past five of them that were WALKING their bikes up a steep grade. Yes WALKING. So much for bents not being able to climb huh? I have yet to be passed by a diamond frame. (I would never claim that it couldn’t happen though. Just that it hasn't yet) Now in my opinion it's really not a fair comparison. I work with much less wind resistance than a guy on a DF. As far as hills are concerned I suppose we're about even I guess. What does an average DF weigh anyhow? My ride with everything I carry (ten pounds of water at the start of ride alone) is around 36-37 pounds, and I still pass up DFs on the hills. I'm afraid I just don't get where this B.S. about bents not being able to climb comes from. I can put more power to my rear wheel than a guy on a DF can, period. (Who can move more weight? A guy doing a dead lift from the floor which is the same motion as someone standing on their pedals and pulling on the handlebars, or a guy on a squat machine which is basically the same motion as my VKII.) It's just common sense. Something Johnny is severely lacking. So Johnny, how 'bout you save up and buy yourself a bent so you can stop feeling bad about spending so much on a bike that leaves you behind all the fat guys on bents.

How about...."Those guys on those funny looking bikes are nerdy and they just want attention."---I say...SO?

Or how about...."Those funny looking bikes are for old men." I'm not old yet...and I love my engine powered bent.

Or how about...:"People who ride those funny looking bikes hate people and just want to be alone."...No...it is just that DF riders hate the idea that anything could be better than a sore crotch and sore wrists and backs.

Or how about...."People who ride those goofy looking bikes are abnormal thinkers who make fun of others who ride normal bikes."---OK that may be true.

Ken, norecumyet, et al,

Johnny Nocom is/was simultaneously a troll and a shill. The story, as I heard it, was that certain persons in the Chicago area had to guarantee a minimum sale of NoComs before Kamil at Velokraft would agree to produce any. To that end, the Johnny Nocom identity was created to generate interest in the design. His modus operandi was to belittle anyone not measuring up to his standards, and his standards were:

1. ride a NoCom
2. be the fastest cyclist around

This would be somewhat akin to Lance taunting any and all Cat 1/2 riders, especially if they didn't ride some 'Lance Armstrong signature edition' Trek. In doing so, Johnny demonstrated a well-developed talent for NO CLASS. AFAIK, there were quite a few NoComs purchased in spite of Johnny, but none were bought because of him. Curiously, he disappeared shortly after a NoCom rider placed comparatively worse than lowracervk2 - or me - at the 100 mile road race for which he ridiculed our performance. J.N. has apparently been banned everywhere; and wherever it was possible to do so, his posts have been removed by administrators. Good Riddance.
