Disk Hubs

Since 2001, over 90,000 cyclist's have joined Cycling Forums to discuss topics from general cycling to equipment, training, racing and travel or vacation destinations (especially in europe during the tour de france). We also feature an great deals in our online store, 100's of articles, classifieds and product reviews.

I would like to eventually change over to disk brakes, however; I can't afford to do it all at once. Can I buy disk hubs and run them w/ V-Brakes untill I can afford the complete switch? Also, does anyone know the difference between Chris King ISO disk and Disco-tech Hubs? I definately want King hubs, I just don't know which kind.

You certainly can, a lot of people do it. The main advantage to going straight to discs is that a disc specific rim eliminates the sidewalls and rims tend to be a bit stronger.
The King ISO disc hubs can only use the 6 bolt international standard. The older discotecs had a removable adapter that could take older 4 or 5 bolt discs. King doesn't make these anymore since everyone now uses the international 6 bolt standard with the exception of the new centerlock shimano brakes (but you can still buy a 6 bolt rotor and use a king hub on new shimano brake systems).
