Market Opening

Since 2001, over 90,000 cyclist's have joined Cycling Forums to discuss topics from general cycling to equipment, training, racing and travel or vacation destinations (especially in europe during the tour de france). We also feature an great deals in our online store, 100's of articles, classifieds and product reviews.

I think that there is a perfect market opening for a company that wants to
manufacture MODERATE brifters - say 9-speed stuff for a good price? $200 for
a set with cabling etc? It should work with Shimano derailers.

I would try to copy the Campy lever method layout but make them easier to
service and repair.

Don't SRAM make that kind of stuff?

SRAM Rival double-tap levers cost about $350 and are 10 speed.

I believe that there are mavic shifters or some other company that
does this. they are usually on sale in the performance catalog.

Ah, but a company already makes $200 9 speed shifters that are Shimano
derailleur compatible:

No I didn't miss it. I just thought you were looking for some $200 9
speed Shimano brifters. I thought your wish that they also should be
rebuildable and act like Campagnolo levers were just a dream wish. If
you dislike Shimanos brifters and don't trust their reliability, but
like how Campagnolo levers work, just get Campagnolo instead. Mirage
2008 brifters and a derailleur can be had for less than $200 in total
(at least here in EU). They can be rebuild etc. Mirage is smashing
value and good quality.

FSA were rumored to make 9 speed brifters (around when Sram 10 sp came
out) but I have heard nothing since.

I wasn't trying to knock Shimano. I think that there's a market opening for
a brifter as I described it. Shimano Tiagra is not bad stuff though.
