A carrier bag has the bonus of making your bike look tatty, thus less
attractive to tea leaves.

No bag or pocket to put it in?

Shower cap.

Please ignore that. (You must mean it comes off when covering the saddle).

I have a leather saddle on my commute bike,
and nowhere (under cover) at work to store it :-(

I like my saddle, and would like
to both keep it, and keep it in good condition.

I presently use the hallowed technique
of a carrier bag, tied under the seat by its
handles.

This works OK, but the carrier bags only
last around 2-3 weeks, before the handles fall
off.

In any case, it's never very secure, and the bag
has come off in high winds.

Does any have a recommendation for
a better leather-seat-rain-protector?

In my mind I'm half seeing something "drawstringy"
that encloses the saddle (as opposed
to the carrier bag which just kind of sits there)

Problem is that anything drawstrinny is likely to be fabric that may not be
waterproof or if it is costs too buch.

Why not get an old rain coat (cogoul) and knock something up.

You could also gets a re-usable cable tie and continue to use the carrier.

Is the right answer. Look in Boots, ever so cheap.

Hmm. I note that of the 3 features, one "feature" is

" Printed Brooks logo "

;-)

Looks like a decent cover though. Thanks.

I was just about to recommend the same Brooks one. I have one, and it is
quite nice, and does the job very well.

I'm not entirely sure whether the velcro loop it so keep the cover on when
in use (it also has an elastic drawstring that does this perfectly well), or
for attaching it somewhere while not in use.

It looks fine when fitted to a B17.

seen the post re Brooks seat cover and at £3.99 I'd suggest waiting until
Aldi/Lidl do their cycle promos again(are we not due one?). They sold a
saddle tool bag that came with a waterproof cover, I use that for my saddle,
and the bonus is, you get a useable emergency tool bag!

Plastic shower hat with elastic all round hem (my wife sometimes brings one home from the gym), or from Boots etc for not much money.

I just stuff the carrier bag tightly under the saddle rather
than tying it.

I have a supply of the freebie shower caps from various hotels stayed in
over the years. Work great as saddle cover. And as a multitude of uses too.
I feel a book coming on.. '101 uses of a freebie shower cap'

In the days of toestraps this was one of the 101 uses for a spare
toestrap.

I have a quick release pin on the tube end where the seat post goes and
just take the post and Brooks saddle with me - to the pool changing
room, shops, work, etc. I learned my lesson after having my first Brooks
stolen from the bike which I'd parked in Poland Street car park, in
Soho.

If I have to leave the bike outside and it's raining, I have an old
folded up plastic bag which I fasten over the tube end with an elastic
band.

The Brooks saddle cover mentioned elsewhere in this thread is rather a
giveaway, and eminently nickable, even if you don't have a Brooks saddle
under it.
