Tour de Suisse and Astana...

Since 2001, over 90,000 cyclist's have joined Cycling Forums to discuss topics from general cycling to equipment, training, racing and travel or vacation destinations (especially in europe during the tour de france). We also feature an great deals in our online store, 100's of articles, classifieds and product reviews.

I was a bit disappointed that Astana had decided to field such a weak
team for the Tour de Suisse. With the exception of Kloden there is
not any notable riders for this race. I personally think that either
Levi or Contador should have entered this race.

It's one thing to be a fan. It's anohter to be a clueless fan. There
are several reasons why Leipheimer couldn't have done the TdS but
perhaps the best is that at the time the TdS began --> he was still
riding in the Dauphine <--.

Kloden is in the Tour de Suisse for start money only because he just rode
the Giro and his legs have to be mush. The same goes for beach boy
Contador.

Yeah, how can they be taken seriously for a spot in the Tour of France
(TIOOYK) if they don't put a good squad into the Tour of Switzerland?

Problems with his legs it seems today, it seems Kloden is not the
rider he used to be...guess he's more careful these days...

As the team leader, everything is riding on his shoulders so he has to
calculate his efforts better.

Yes as we saw in the 2006 TDF, it seems that he doesn't quite have
what it takes to be a leader in spite of his obvious talent, a bit
like Jean-François Bernard although he tried his hand at being a
leader at a young age (87 and 88) before resurfacing in 91/92 (not
sure what his status was in 89 and 90) to become Indurain's henchman,
pretty succesfully too !

Possibly, but it's hard to understand why he couldn't push himself
more and keep up yesterday when the TDS is going to be pretty easy
until the moutain ITT on Saturday.
