Cervelo RS or Madone 5.2?

Hello all, I'm looking to upgrade from my first road bike, a trek 1500, to something new. I am looking at the new Cervelo RS and the 2008 Madone 5.2. I will be putting my recently purchased Easton Tempest II wheelset on it so the standard wheels the bike comes with are not important. I am looking for something that is a reasonably comfortable ride without giving away too much in performance. I am about 6' 4", 96 kgs and rapidly approaching 40 years of age, so that is the main reason for looking at bikes with some vertical compliance, and I am happy with either the Ultegra SL on the Madone, or the DA on the Cervelo. i have to agree -- the Cervelo; this is a company that has serious passion, have pro cred just like trek, and aren't 'resting on their laurels'.

I have a personal preferrence for the Cervelo, too. And for the same money, I think you'll get a better component sepc. But to be honest, you can't go wrong with either. Test ride them both - go with the one you like better.

IMO, if you're not racing both choices are serious overkill. Nonetheless, it's your discretionary income that you're spending and not mine...more power to ya'.

Substance over style...

I have a Cervelo RS, upgraded that from a Trek 5000. I am 42 years old and agree that unless you plan on racing it is serious overkill. While I never rode the Madone I could say the Cervelo is amazing. It will take some getting used to as it is very responsive into the turns but is suprisingly comfy on not the best road conditions.

The other thing you better get used to is everyone from a toys r us special to a pinarello will want to race you. Everyone wants to say they toasted the guy on the 5,000 bike!
