One of the guys that I work with is claiming that he has a custom bike on order. This is no big deal except that he claims that it is an $11,000 US bicycle:eek:! I asked him about the material and he says that it is an alloy mix that contains titanium, steel, and some other metals. He also claims that it comes with a case. Funny things are that he cannot remember the manufacturer except that it is similar to Pinarello. If I were spending $11,000 on a bike I would remember the manufacturer's name. He also doesn't recall what group of components it has on it. For $11,000 I would have memorized every spec on the bike. Could this really be real or is he blowing smoke? He is into riding as he rides 18 miles a day commuting to work on an elderly Mongoose MTB. He normally doesn't tell tall tales, but he seemed more interested in stressing the fact that it was an 11 grand bike than telling us anything about the bikes specificatinos.

I can't tell if he's blowing smoke but me like you would at least know the manufacturer I will buy that thing from. $11 000.00 and not knowing what your buying!

He's pulling your leg, the fact that he says it's a custom bike on order means he
has had a lot of interaction with the company. Your right any bicycle rider spending this money knows the specs.

Lots of bikes that are S&S coupled would be that much. S&S using ti couplers are $1100 alone. Parlee is $6000 frame and fork, add another $2500 for a group, another $1500 for some wheels..easy to get to $11000
BUT ya would think he knew more about what it is. wouldn't ya?

Can't u tell he's blowing smoke / trying to impress u becasue he ride a Moongoose MTB! Now I can impress u with my $26,000 15 bike collection!I'm just wondering, how many of your 15 bikes do you actually ride regularly? Are there any that you don't ride at all, and if so, why do you keep them? I've got 5 bikes, my daily ride, a bike that I built up for my girlfreind(she doesn't have room to store it but it really is hers), a MTB, an old project bike, and my sweet little 1984 Raleigh Super Course that I raced in the day. Except for my girlfreind's bike and the Super Course, I ride the rest least once a week. I raced the Super Course in the mid 80's. It was owned by the bike shop that sponsored me. Unfortunately when I had to stop racing, I could not afford to buy it so the shop sold it. When I could afford it and had the time to devote to a search, I was able to track it down and purchased it from the owner. He hadn't put a hundred miles on it in the ten years that he owned it, so it did not take much to restore it. I keep it for sentimental reasons but I only ride it a few times a year and then over maintain it (relube EVERTHING) after each ride.

Don't worry kdelong, he has so many bikes that he is forced to rent a USD1,000 garage to keep them all. And he spends at least USD 221.00 in lube and other bike maintenance.
And don't let him get started on the USD431 he has in floor and frame pumps.
Plus, he owns two of every tool in the Park Tool catalogue... so that'...erm.... carry the 3, about another USD 2,789 and change.
Has he yet mentioned the high price of his exclusive Assos arm warmer collection?

Parlee are made right up the street from me in Peabody,Ma. I live about 15 miles away in Gloucester,Ma. When I first learned about Parlee I was very excited to know that they were local as I pondered the idea of owning a custom high end bike but the price is way too much. Instead I found 54cm Cervelo r3sl frame that fits me just fine at a lbs. I spent a lot of money on the build, 2,200 for frame, fork, seatpost and headset. Another 3k for everything else including pedals. Went with Ultegra Sl and the Durace wheelset was another 1000. But the bike build could of easily reached 8-9k maybe even 10k with the most exotic of everything.

Good thing they round off to the nearest cent; otherwise you may hear about a tire that costs $20.374829375 or something like that. :D In 1979, 1 Italian Lire = US$0.00125. Therefore, if you purchased a tire in Italy using Italian currency and tried to convert it into US currency, you had to carry it out to thousandths of a cent to be accurate. Thank God for the Euro.

Thank God for the Euro.Sure, currency conversion factors are measured to several decimal places; but I don't think currency itself is measured more accurately than 2 decimal places. The extra accuracy in conversion factors is required when one is dealing with large sums of money.

I have 6 bmx, 2 mtn, and 7 road bikes.
I occasionally give the bmx bikes a spin to have fun doing flatland freestyle tricks. Back in HS in the 80’s I was heavily into bmx Freestyle. Used to do maybe 28 mile city adventure rides in them.
Then I bought a Pacific mtn bike. I use it now as a backup winter shopping bike. My Cannondale F600 was a mistake, hardly ride this mtn bike, but now in the future I’m gonna strap on a bike engine to it and use it as a moped.
I now temp work in Houston, and 4 of my road bikes are in Chicago not being used. My main workout bike – 05 Kestrel Talon. I have my CF Cervelo Soloist with me but don’t use it mainly because the crappy ergomo computer broke. For long distance rides and travel shopping I use my 2007 Trek Pilot 2.1 Spa with Jannd Panniers, Polar Power, and ceramic Ksyrium Sls.
The road bike I least ride – 2002 Giant Tcr Aero 2. My oldest, not inspiring to ride anymore but good to use as a cheap bike to workout in bad areas, like Humbolt Park Chicago – where they’ll jump you for drug money.
Oh, maybe I need lube because I get soo excited ! ….
