2 x 9 36/48T Chainrings
I'm under taking a drive train rebuild of my trusty 1996 Giant ATX 880 and turn from a 3 x 8 to a 2 x 9 commuter / road bike.
I thought I'd try to put a SRAM Rival compact 34/50t crankset on it but that didn't fit as the chain stays where to wide to fit the narrower crankset on.
So my in order to get the double chainring on the front I'm going to have revert to a mountain bike trekking 24/36/48T crankset and remove the granny ring. Seeing as I'm running SRAM I'm looking at Truvativ. The only Truvativ trekking I can find is the Firex 3.3 but I prefer the look of the 2008 Stylo and I'm guessing it is going to be a bit lighter.
I was wondering if I could get a Stylo 2.2 24/36 with bashguard - and just replace the bashguard with a Truvativ 48T Trushift Alloy Chain Ring? I thinking that the 48T chainring will have the pins and ramps to match the 36T ring and that the Firex and Stylo look to use the same chainrings anyway.
The of the upgrade rest is as follows :
SRAM X.0 twist shifters
SRAM Force front derailleur with the cable running through a cyclocross pulley to use the top pull derailleur
SRAM PC-991 hollowpin chain
SRAM X.9 medium cage rear derailleur
SRAM PG 970 12-26 cassette
Tyres are Conitential Ultra Gator Skins 1'1/8
Thanks
