I don't know if this helps but when I was looking, Giant was a better value for the money. When I compared the frame and components, Giant was about $400 less (OCR1: $900). I think all Giant frames are compact geometry (the Treks I rode were also compact frames). I had looked at the Trek 1.5 and for less money I could get 105 components in a Giant; to get that in a Trek I had to go up to the Trek 2.5 (about $1,300). To me, they all rode the same.

I know its a bit cheaper than you have been looking at but I recently rode the Giant ocr 3 and the Trek 1200 and I prefered the Giant as you got a bit more for the money. The Trek does give you a lifetime warranty on the frame but you pay a bit of a premium for this.

When I rode them the both felt like good bikes but for me I preferd the Giant. But get on them both and have a ride, that is probably the best way.

I ride/race a Giant TCR Alliance 1 that I got through our team sponsorship from Giant (paid 600 less than retail). I love the bike, and although it rides a bit harsher (reason I got it, due to stiffness), it's a much more responsive bike than my last one, which was a Giant TCR C2.

Have you test rode either bikes? From my experience I would go with the Giant. I had a Giant TCR1 aluminum that was VERY fast and handled great. I was not impressed with the Trek 5000 that I test rode. However on mountain bikes I prefer Trek.
