Neat!

I'd have to be at least a little drunk, but ... since the guy in the
video seems to be, too ... I assume that's a given.

Found it.

Unfortunately, flying to Denmark to pick up my 4500 euro bike just
isn't in the budget, and craigslist isn't turning up anything :(

But it will be mine. Even if I have to build one out of washing
machine parts and plastic garbage cans. Oh yes, it will be mine.

Just the vehicle to have when riding home from one of Amsterdam's coffee
shops.

Here's one I wish I could afford.

The chance of finding a used velomobile outside of Northern Europe is
very slim. The recent drop in the dollar versus the Euro has made
importing anything from CE much more expensive. :(

If you are looking for inspiration to build a velomobile [1] from spare
bits and scrap, check out this web-page:

Here is a homemade velomobile starting with a commercial trike for a
total cost of approximately $2900 plus labor:

[1] The generic name for fully-faired human powered vehicles intended
for practical street use.

I'd go with a wire frame for the fairings with some sort of model (or
real) airplane fabric covering to keep it cheap and repairable.

It must be possible to make a velomobile for way cheaper than $2900.
Making a light one might be a different story.

Well, if you're talking about Geneva, Illinois, I don't think a spliff is
gonna be on the menu; don't know about Geneva, Switzerland. Certainly would
be in Amsterdam.

What a dopey idea! ;)

Doped aircraft quality Dacron would likely be the best choice. Composite
materials (similar to modern tent poles) could be used for the fairing
frame.

See the Joe Kochanowski's page for construction on a low budget:

However, when a mid-level road bicycle is $1500 US, it would be
unreasonable to expect to build a similar quality velomobile for
anywhere near the same price, considering the greater complexity of the
velomobile.

That is the "City of Lake Geneva", not just plain "Geneva". Of course,
there is the "Town of Geneva" in Walworth County, which includes parts
of the City of Elkhorn, City of Lake Geneva and Village of Williams Bay.
