During TdF, do they allow you to ride the roads the same day?

Since 2001, over 90,000 cyclist's have joined Cycling Forums to discuss topics from general cycling to equipment, training, racing and travel or vacation destinations (especially in europe during the tour de france). During the Tour of California, I just ride my bike up a road and watch the race come by. Is this allowed during the Tour de France? I am planning on going to the Alps next year to watch the race and was just wondering if I need to camp out days ahead of time or if I can ride the road the same day.

I was at the Tour this year with the Discovery Channel team. I rode the courses they day before the pros with no problem at all. You can not ride the same day as the pros. Most fans camp out on the sides of the road.
