I think it's too much. Old 80's 12 speeds are a dime a dozen. The problem, though, is that you have to look for the bargains which takes valuable time. You could pick up a bike like that for $10 if you're lucky, $40 if you pay a fair market price.

They are great bikes, but the market is flooded. It's a buyer's market. People buy them, ride them once or twice and put them away.

That's one of the better but not exceptional ones, with aluminum rims and stem and 3 piece square taper crank.

Any 10- or 12-speed from Japan, Taiwan, or England from the 70s or 80s will be very easy to get replacement parts for as well as new, quality tires.

However, I have seen many of these which needed a rear axle overhaul. It's not a strong design and it needs to be set up properly or will fail. Basically you need to make sure the cones have enough preload, and the preload doesn't go away due to the cones loosening or breaking in.
