Good bag for a carbon road bike?
I'm looking for a good bag to carry a 2-3 books (10 pounds or so) on a Specialized Roubaix I got for commuting.

I know, I know, I should have got a more practical hybrid but it's just too fun to go fast.

I have a Topeak MTX bag but I'm afraid a clip on rack (the kind without side supports) will crush the carbon seat post. Any thoughts? How tough are the carbon seat posts?

Most people would advise against a seatpost rack on a CF seatpost. Your best bet is to find a comfortable and secure backpack or courier bag.

Thanks. I was afraid of that!

I'd recommend using a Bagman Quick Release rack with a Carradice Saddle Bag. I'm hoping you don't have carbon fiber rails on your saddle.

I use a seatpost attached pannier rack with my carbon post. Its been about 2 months now and i havent had any problems. I typically carry about 30-40 lbs in the panniers and my commute is about 10 miles each way. No issues have arisen yet reguarding durability or strength of the post. I would however advise against any shortening of the post, or any extra lightweight carbon posts under (250g).

Well, right or wrong I'm about to try it. I can't find anything in my bike manual or on any rack site that advises against using a clip on rack with a carbon post. So here goes! If it cracks and I wind up in the ditch I'll let you know. :D
