I know this will vary a lot but I am curious if anyone has clocked their fastest speed on an all-out sprint on flat terrain? Say 100-300meters? ~10-15s duration? Basically a group sprint at the end of a race, so not necessarily when you are completely fresh. I don't race so I don't know...?

I usually do a sprint at the end of my endurance rides to simulate how hard it is. I usually get up to about 58km/h for 10 secs. I'm definitely not a sprinter though!

I do a similar sprint at the end of my rides as well and the speed is about the same. I am not a sprinter either!:) any sprinters out there?

I too am no sprinter, but I too like to end rides with a solo sprint. I only clock 54 K/h and about 960W.

I must have poor technique too because I have reached 1050 on some uphill jumps during hard club rides.

I read that the pro guys can reach 72k/h sometimes! That's insane! I have trouble going that fast on a downhill:) how many watts do you think that is?

59.9kph is my personal best on a flat straight with no wind and no drafting.
I'd like to be going that fast drafting and then go for it and see how faster I could go but haven't been able to do that yet...

In a crit last summer I came off the wheel of one of the other guys and got up to 63km/hr. I was going so hard I started to get tunnel vision and took me about an hour before I felt good enough to ride home

On a flat with a leadout, I've been able to reach 38.5 MPH. That's 61.6 KMH by my pathetic math skills.

I've hit right on 40 in a crit finish. Usually 38 to 39 in training, but there's no leadout.

I am a sprinter and have almost reached 23.6 mph on occassion. That was probably aided by a slight downhill and a tailwind. But...my dick really is 8 inches. I don't know what that is in metric.

I posted this in the road racing forum as well...

Evans welcomes Australian team idea

Cadel Evans could envisage being on the same team as fellow Australian Tour de France star Michael Rogers, but adds only one of them can be leader.

Evans is encouraged by Tuesday's news that travel company Roamfree.com is prepared to contribute $20 million over four years towards the creation of an Australian-based professional cycling team.

The main goal of the team would be to contest the Tour de France, a long-held goal in Australian cycling.

Evans made history last month when he finished second, the best result by an Australian in Tour history.

Rogers, who was 10th last year, was in contention for the yellow jersey when he crashed in stage eight, suffering a shoulder injury that forced him out of the race.

The backers of the Australian team concept are keen to unite Evans and Rogers in the same team.

Evans currently rides for Belgian team Predictor-Lotto and Rogers is a key rider for German powerhouse T-Mobile.

"My idea of a team is that the guy who has the best chance to win the Tour de France, everyone in the team works for him - whether it's him (Rogers) or me, I don't have a problem with that," Evans said.

Over the next few days in Beijing, Evans and Rogers will be able to discuss the idea of becoming full-time team-mates.

They will be part of an Australian squad that will compete in two test events over the Olympic road courses.

Evans is enthusiastic about the Australian team concept, but stresses much has to be done before the idea becomes reality.

The backers plan to have the team operating in 2009 and have called for another major financial backer, plus federal government support.

They will need a budget of about $15 million per year to run the team properly.

"There's been a lot of talk, but finally there's something strong in it and a real step forward," Evans said.

"All the talk in the world doesn't amount to much, but this is one step in the right direction.

"While it's still a long way from having an Australian team in the Tour de France, we're a lot closer than what we were before."

Evans added he will have a lot to think about next year if the Australian team starts bidding for his services.

His contract with Predictor-Lotto expires at the end of next season.

Evans has enjoyed three pivotal years at Predictor-Lotto, making his long-awaited Tour de France debut in 2005.

He finished eighth in his first Tour, then fifth and now runner-up to Spaniard Alberto Contador.

"The team will be aware of that (the prospect of an Australian team) now as well and thinking about it," Evans said.

"We'll see what comes of it, probably in the middle of next year.

"I've put a lot of work and effort into making it more of a general classification team.

"As we saw in the Tour, we're just starting to get there now - it's been three years of my energy and time and the team's time and resources."

Evans' Predictor-Lotto team-mate Robbie McEwen also comes out of contract late next year and has been a key figure in the development of the Australian team idea.

that would be 20.3cm...I heard that was a prerequisite for sprinters. Is that true??

Solo training sprints - ~35 mph

Group rides I can sustain ~30 mph for about a mile or two on a break away.

I clocked a 15km/hr sprint the other day with a downhill tailwind !

I clocked a 15km/hr sprint the other day with a downhill tailwind, with two flat tyres, buckled wheels and the brakes jammed!

I must have poor technique too because I have reached 1050 on some uphill jumps during hard club rides.I am routinely able to get 5sec intervals of over 1000W, and have a several 5sec intervals between 1200 & 1300W. I also have a few 10sec intervals with over 1000W recorded. My highest output is 2047W for 3sec paired with a peak 5sec at 1297W and 10sec at 913W. My speed is variable depending on the circumstance around the sprint...I'm pretty much the sprinter for my club.
