Wifes bike as commuter?
My wife recently inherited an old Raleigh Super Course Mixte framed bike. She didn't like the drop bars and the tires need replaced but other than that it has been barely used. I had my LBS shop put some Nitto albatross bars (to make her happy as it puts her in a very upright position) on the bike and am going to replace the tires with some Pasela TG's. I have about a 3 mile commute to work. My main bike is a Bianchi Eros and while I love it as a road bike it is not entirely practicle to use my road bike as a commuter so I pretty much gave up commuting. I rode my wifes bike to work today and loved it! The albatross handlebars give me a nice upright position while commuting, the bike will accept fenders and racks, stepping in and out is easier in work clothes than on my road bike and I don't need to carry any shoes (I just rode in my dress shoes and the Bianchi has clip ins). Have any other men used a mixte (or womans) frame as a commuter? I guess so long as I don't mine being seen as a bit odd or eccentric it will save me the money of buying a bike for commuting.
