My Venture into Recumbents

Since 2001, over 90,000 cyclist's have joined Cycling Forums to discuss topics from general cycling to equipment, training, racing and travel or vacation destinations (especially in europe during the tour de france). We also feature an great deals in our online store, 100's of articles, classifieds and product reviews.

Like many people, I started out with a Long Wheel Base. I purchased this used Bike E about a year ago.

Last week, I purchased a lower-riding, short wheel base Optima Dragon. Again, it was a used bike. It seems so easy to get it spinning at 20-25 MPH.

I didn't think that a BikeE was a LWB, I thought it was a CLWB.
A LWB would be something like a Tour Easy.

Each type has its advantages and disadvantages, and even among the same type you can have significant variations.

Technically, yes it's a CLWB, or perhaps a MWB if you prefer. But it's a LWB format, i.e. pedals behind the steerer tube. The difference isn't enough to get defensive over.

Nice looking Dragon, BTW. The seat has the old graphics on it. What year is it?

According to the previous owner, it was purchased new in 2004. Even though it was VERY WINDY today here, I sure enjoyed the commute to work. Coming home was great. It's so easy to ride 20-25 MPH, without a lot of effort. I'd go faster, but I want to develop a little more stability with the under-seat steering first.
