Advantages of disc brakes

What are some of the advantages of disc brakes over regular brakes? Are there many pros and cons?

stopping power is virtually unaffected in mud.

Discs have A LOT more power, like Biker chick said they are the greatest option for wet weather, they still work, hopefully, if your rim is not true (can allow you to limp home if you wack something in the middle of a trail). If you get a good set-up the modulation is superior to even very good linear pull brakes. The fade on them (as they get hot) is much much less than on rim brakes. They are getting less expensive everyday as well! Ride well.
