Riding in Ireland - Galway
Hi, all:
I'm taking a trip with the family to Galway the last week in June. I'm planning on taking my Pocket Rocket with me and wondered if anyone has suggestions on routes, local clubs or bike shops in the area. I will be there for 8 days and will try to get in rides on 5-6 of those, with one ride over 100k and the others of varying shorter distances.
This will be my 3rd trip to Ireland, first for my family, and we are all looking forward to it. We are staying at the University apartments - Donegan Court - in downtown Galway. Any help or suggestions will be appreciated.
Regards,
Dave

It's a bit of drive to the area from Galway but if you can get to the Burren in County Clare thee are some great cycling routes, good tough hills and spectacular views. Collins publish a guide to the area with with suggested cycle routes in it. It should be available in galway shops.
Have a good time!

Some nice spins on the western side of Galway City (heading out toward Clifden direction).
Heading out of Galway on the Headford Road and you're on the road to Connemara.
You'll have all of the space that you'll need.
Lovely countryside but very open and the weather (like all Irish weather) can be
changeable especially on the West coast.
Prevailing winds in Ireland is southwesterly - so your route out of town (going west) will be a lot harder than your return journey.

Was in two mind about posting this: Hopefully the problem will be resolved before your trip, but I think it's something you should be aware of, especially when you're bringing your family.
There's a serious problem with the drinking water supply in Galway for the last number of weeks.

"Galway's boil water notice is set to continue for at least another month, the Health Services Executive West has indicated. Up to six people have now been hospitalised while 93 cases of cryptosporidiosis as a result of water contamination have been identified in Galway City and County"
Not great news. Hope it's resolved before you arrive.
