What To Eat AFTER A Ride??
I'm always starving after a ride of an hour or more; what are some good things to eat post-ride that won't wreck my weight loss efforts but will fill me up in a good way? TIA,

-Chas

Well, as I understand it, you want to spike your blood sugar about an hour after a workout (a cycle ride will count as that) so that your metabolism has readily available calories that it can use to process some of your fat reserves to replenish your glycogen stores.

If you time it right, you can break a sweat as the process kicks in. If you have done a load of anerobic hill work, some protein might be good too.

I often have a bowl of Shredded Wheat with Semi Skimmed milk (loads of protein) and a glass of fruit juice (High Glycemic carbs for spiking blood sugar) about an hour after a ride, or a gym visit.

What I dont understand is why I am not hungry at all after a stationary bike workout of 75 mins...but I am ravenously hungry after a 30 min regular bike ride!

You could take a bannana with you to eat at half-way or some museli bars.

Yeah, bananas are great...they are dense and fill you up quickly and are regenerative. I like the snack bars too. Sometimes I have a bowl of ramen noodles if it is a awhile until my next meal.

Some people loose their appitite after intense sessions because the blood has 'shunted' from their gut to their skin and exercising muscles. This happens less with low intensity exercise. Your appitite will return as blood flow returns to normal and this can be helped by a warm/cool down.
