Hilary Clinton
HC announced her candidacy for the 2008 Democrat Presidential race.
How will she fare?
Will she get the nomination?
Would you vote for her?
Would you not vote for her?
Why would you vote/not vote for her?
If she does get the nomination - would America elect her as President?

I would not vote for her, because even though I always support the Democratic party (I'm generally a left-leaning libertarian), she is an authoritarian Democrat which is the wrong type (you know, like a PETA liberal). She wants to create a politically correct society by censoring and banning things, which just means creating more restrictions which is something the U.S. does NOT need.

If she does get the nomination - would America elect her as President? Hilary Clinton will win the nomination by a wide margin...... Obama is in the news right now, but Hilary will not even be bothered by him. Obama has accomplished nothing , and has no track record of any kind.
Hilary's strenghts are that she can handle scandal. She has already survived some big ones. The Democratic Party is controlled by a few individuals, all east coast individuals..... The west coast liberals carry no weight in any political desicions of the Democratic Party... Hilary's war chest which is important is bigger then all the other canidates combined. It's also time she will call in favors.....
Hilary did a very smart thing in 2004. She did not back Kerry. She almost backed Bush if you examine it closely. She needed a Bush victory, or her career was over....... A victory for Bush was a victory for the Clinton's....
Being a woman will be her weakness.. Is America ready for a woman????? It could be argued that she has been around long enough that the voters do not think of the women issue when they think of her.
Then there is the John Edwards issue..... He is the one the Republicans fear. He is electable. However, Hilary will accept nothing but the Presidential nomination. She may be able to destroy Edwards career as she did Al Gores..... Hilary Clinton is not a woman to mess with.
She is viewed as backing the war in Iraq..... That could draw some right leaning voters. That is the key to this 2008 election. The Democrats have to pull voters away from the right.
Over the next few months we will witness her dismissing Obama back to his frat house, putting distance between her and Howard Dean, and attempting to convince the voters she is middle of the road. Many people try to paint her a social liberal. I have not seen that since the health care issue she has promoted flopped.
Now...... The real issue is "How will the Democrats screw up 2008?" They were handed the election in 2004 and lost. They have to put together a Clinton-Edwards united front to win.

She should do fine and win the nomination but I think it will be closer than people think. She had to declare she was running now (not like it was that big of a surprise.) because the field is getting crowded. And if she waited too long she would lose out on some delagate votes and campaign fund raising.
There are a few things that hurt her.
She has played/voted like a moderate more to the center. Pro-War, etc. But to get the nomination she has to move back to the left since the Democrat big wigs want someone as far left as possible. (look at 2004 they picked Kerry the most liberal of the realistic canidates.) Even though there were/are more electable canidates.
It is still a long time until the election and alot of dirt can be dug up in that time. She is a senator and every votes she casts will be scrutinized. That is if she shows up for the votes. (Another of Kerry's problems was he was campaigning and missed a majority of his committe meetings and votes in 2004.)
She is very polarizing figure like Bush. Either you love her or you hate her.
She really does not have much of a persona like her husband. She comes across selfish, cold, uncaring and calculating. These are not qualities most Americans like. Kerry should have won in 04 but he was seen as a pompous, stiff, and bit of an ego maniac so he lost election.
She has never really had to campaign. Her two campaigns were a joke she was going to win in NY against anybody except Rudy. He dropped out because of cancer treatment in 2000.
She has alot going for her but it will not be that easy.
I personally would not vote for her.
It depends on who she selects as VP on if she will win in my opnion. If she gets someone who is truly respected, liked and politically middle of the road she wins.
If you thought the last couple campaigns had alot of mudslinging just wait. The nomination process will be worst than the actual campaign.
No chance for her. It will be a good year for a stong independent to run.
Since I lasted posted, I watched her being interviewed. I was wrong, she led off with her health plan idea. That is a very radical idea, a idea which will pull out all the stops of the opponents...
She needs to shake that social liberal idea......... Don't the Democrats get it???? America does not want a liberal. Which leads to your next point....

(look at 2004 they picked Kerry the most liberal of the realistic canidates.) Even though there were/are more electable canidates. Right on.....The Democratic Party needs to lose Kennedy,Dean, Kerry and possibly Clinton. They do not have the vote of the Democratic voter. The average Demoocratic voter is a blue collar worker. The Dems spend too much time trying to get the vote of the groups in America that do not vote, or are a small section of the voting block.
America is middle of the road. It's hard for the Dems to give an image of being "for the worker" when it is actually represented by the east coast rich......
The Republicans run very effective campaigns.. A Republican knows what he stands for. The Democrats have polorizing voter blocks.
She is very polarizing figure like Bush. Either you love her or you hate her. Yes...... The reason BillClinton is seen as having a basically moderate tenure as a President was because he was, and the Republican House/Senate kept it that way. He was in for two terms.
She really does not have much of a persona like her husband. She comes across selfish, cold, uncaring and calculating. These are not qualities most Americans like. Kerry should have won in 04 but he was seen as a pompous, stiff, and bit of an ego maniac so he lost election. Kerry,Gore, and Dean all looked like frat boys who were spending daddy's money. The people in America could not identify with them.
If she gets the nomination she will be the best chance for a Republican victory.

Oh geewiz, how naive of me, we are talking politics, aren't we?

Wouldn't a universal health care system be of benifit to the 'blue coller worker' or have I misunderstood you?

It would if we start from scratch and build it properly. But they will put a patch here, throw some money here, etc. They would never publicly say they plan to start from scratch.
Do you remember Hillary's stab at healthcare in 1993. Before a Republican controlled congress in 1994.
Nothing happened cause the Pharma companies also have Dems. in their pocket too. (Remember Gore going to Africa to talk them out of making their own generic HIV drugs. So the Pharma companies can continue to charge extorsionist prices.)
I think the Healthcare is pipe dream but it is one of the only issues right now she can set herself apart from the rest. She has been pushing the mother thing too but it is not very effective since people do not see her as a nuturing mother like figure.

What happened to General Wesley Clark, is he in the running or not?

I believe we have something wrong in this country when health care is so expensive. It is our national shame.
However, America is a capitolist country. A government controlled health care system would really conflict with capitolism as we see it now. A look at Canada's system is proof of that. A health care system would make it extremely difficult for the average man to have his own business..... It would burden small business. The one thing we have it good in America is the fact owning your small buisness is not out of the question. My Euro friends have told me that America is good for that.
Currently now, we have a fairly strong health care system if you are not a large wage earner. The poor have a good system , the rich have a good system, and ther middle class have to pay through the nose. Just as much as the rich, but a much larger percentage of income....
Hilary Clinton will lose the election if she speaks much about that. The people that defend her health care plan are not voters anyway.
Then there is Edwards.......
I see Edwards getting the nomination. That is not a wish of mine, just an early prediction.
White male that has decent presentation (He photographs well).
Hey that's two L's in Hillary...three if you believe some of the rumors.
