Update.

Saris have made an offer to repair my 2.4 as long as I pay postage each way ( I'm in New Zealand BTW). Which I think is very fair of them.
The vendor has also been in touch by email...

We do apologise for the problem and the inconvenience. I have forwarded your communication to CycleOps. I will also give them a call tomorrow evening.. We will handle this in such a manner as to minmise inconvenience to your good self.

From Saris...
honestly we don't even know who these people are.
Refering to the vendors:eek:

So there you have it, I am going to wait a few more days for the vendors and if unsatisfactory send to Saris, who have been very good about the whole thing.

You are very lucky.

I don't know how much it will cost to ship the wheel both ways, but it is probably better than the alternative.

Yet, Saris had a lot to lose not honoring their warranty, given the apparent interest in this new product. Plus, I'm sure they will totally investigate the reseller and hopefully fix that mess up.

I guess it makes me realize, that when I decide to take the plunge, I should stick with my LBS and avoid internet or ebay for a purchase of this nature.

Update

Saris have talked to the vendor..
they are going to take care of this for you. They did call and ask what the best way to address the issue would be. In this case they will take care of you in a timely manner.

So I am hopeful of a good result.
Despite my foolish online purchase don't lose sight of the fact that the 2.4 has failed for me.

Update.

Vendors will send me a new 2.4 hub upon proof of postage and include a CTS DVD for my problems.
That's very fair and good service.
Of course am working for the next 7 days straight and have no time to unlace the hub, but hey, a good result.

Right now, all I can tell them is, "There appear to be some teething problems but I don't have enough information yet to tell you what to do."

RapDaddyo (I like that handle), did you find out any more 'bout the SL 2.4's ... are you still going to purchase them ? It's probably too early to have had any feedback from DesFLurane.

I have two buddies riding SL2.4s and they have not had any problems such as that described by DesFlurane. Saris doesn't seem to think they have a major problem with the 2.4s. I'm inclined to go ahead and order 2.4s for those in my club who want to spend the extra bucks for wireless. I may get one myself (tough tradeoff between the SL2.4 and the Velodyne or CompuTrainer).

My replacement 2.4 is on the way:D

Unfortunately because the original vendor is sending me a new hub I may not find out the reason for failure.

Should be riding on it by next weekend, w0ot.

I've had mine a few weeks now. All going well up to now. Very happy.:D

Question for those that have the 2.4 or know others that do: are you seeing any hub reception drops at all?

Originally, I was having trouble with the HR and hub data. Replacement of the CPU has fixed the HR (perfect now versus about 15% reception before), but I am still having very short drops from the hub. Over a 2 hour ride, I might have 5-20 one-two second drops. Does this sound normal or should I find a box to ship the wheel back to Saris?

HI

I stopped for a few minutes around 2h15min into a ride. After that no HR was recorded or show on screen.

No hassles up to now. Have done longer rides than this without probs.

I'm having the same problem with my new 2.4. First few rides, it was fine. On the 5th and 6th ride, 20-30 two to three second drops on each 2.25 hour ride. The local distributor/retailer tested it and was able to replicate the drop signals on a trainer at the shop. They replaced the head unit and we tested it on the trainer - it worked fine. First road ride with the new head unit, drop signals again! 20-30 drop signals over a 2.25hr ride. It was an 80km ride and the computer only recorded 62km and a trip time of under 2 hours.

gogoturtle, did you ever get the problem fixed?

Yes, mine works fine now. Call Saris, run through your problem with them. They will ask you to send it back and replace the hubs innards. In the year or so since mine was fixed it's been bombproof.

Good luck.

gogoturtle, did you ever get the problem fixed?I have at least that many drops with my wired PT SL unit. It's probably due to the position of the sharkfin sensor, which I don't feel like constantly messing with. In a larger scheme of things, it makes no more than 2 TSS points worth of difference for a ride that length, so why obsess? There's probably a larger margin of error in determining one's FTP, so couple of TSS points are irrelevant IMO. Sending the unit back over something that insignificant is not worth the trouble for me. If it's that important, there's a way to "fix" the drops in WKO+. Only 62 km recorded over 80 km is a larger problem though.

I agree that a product with that price tag should work flawlessly assuming that the fault is with the product not less than ideal installation.

I have two PT 2.4 wheel sets, a ZIPP 404 and a ZIPP 808.

My 404 has been pretty much perfect but the 808 drops have been pretty siginifcant. I am working with Cycleops to resolve the issue, they have been responsive and courteous but have not yet offered anything substantive.

Cycleops told me to move the computer closer to the hub, it is already stem mounted so short of putting in my pocket not sure what the point was. So I put the 404 wheel on the bike and mated the computer with that hub. Did a test ride of about 45 minutes and did not have the dropout issues. This leads me to believe that the problem lies with the 808 hub and not the computer.

With the speed sensor mounted to the front wheel and the cadence sensor mounted and functioning in lieu of using the hub for speed and cadence, the only data that seems to now droput is power. I think I will send them the wheel as soon as I can find the time to be without it.

All in all, even this is a minor issue. Lest we forget that electronics, especially wireless elctronics are not going to be 100% perfect. I think that some issues are to be expected, as long as they are minor, I feel that getting upset and worked up over them is unproductive.

I have a 2.4 that I am trying to ascertain whether it is, in fact, a lemon. It works fine, but the CPU will drain a battery in 2-3 months. This happens irrespective of how much I am riding. The firm ware is up-to-date but I get a low batt warning when I clear the memory. Eventually the read out starts to fade out.

i had the power dropout issue with my 2.4 SL upon initial installation in August 07, and followed the instructions to the letter. I moved the shark fin as close as i could to the hub (and mounted it on the seat stay) and have not had a power drop out issue since.

hope that helps.
