2004 Raliegh R-600 $850
2006 Fuji Roubaix $880
Both are new, both fit about the same. The Raliegh has a better chainset and comes with clipless pedals. The Roubaix has a carbon fork and seat post, but doesn't come with clipless pedals (have to buy in addition). Both have similar components and the Fuji weighs about two pounds less than the Raliegh. The Raliegh's brakes seemed a little more responsive. I test rode both and the Raliegh seemed to handle slightly better (up hills, shifting, ect.) Has anyone had any experience with either of these, or know anything else?
This will be my first road bike. I'm planning on doing some racing and long rides.
Also, when I ride out of the saddle I have a problem with the front of the seat sometimes bopping me in the rear. Any tips to advoid this? Is this something that I'll get better at with more riding?

Why does Raleigh have a bad reputation?

If the Fuji's a kilo lighter for the same price and a similar spec, then that would swing it for me.
As for the saddle getting in the way, that really shouldn't happen. Hard to say whether it's your technique or what, but it sounds like maybe the bike fit is all wrong - perhaps too short, putting you too far back. Maybe you need a longer stem. Certainly worth getting a proper bike fit session, especially as it's your first road bike. Get it right first time and you'll avoid problems later on.
