Newbie with big plans in France
Hello,

I'm racing in a triathon in France (Lorient) this July 15 and my fiance and I would like to "tack on" a 2-3 week cycle tour. We are thinking of leaving Lorient, passing through Bordeaux (and getting married!) on our way to Albi (on Tour de France time trial day if I get my way!!), perhaps ending up in Marseille, chucking our stuff on a train back to Paris and flying home from there. We are planning on staying at B & Bs or cheap hotels (not camping). I'm hoping to arrive at a route using various cycling guide books, maps and Google Earth. We are both capable riders but have not toured before. To me this trip sounds fantastic and reasonable, am I a newbie with no idea or is this a do-able trip?

Thanks all!

Sean

Sounds like a very nice trip, you should try and ride through the Massif Central, yahoo or goolge it and you'll see. My wife and I rode through some of it last spring and it was very beautiful.
There are a few journals out there on that part of France, you can find some in www.crazyguyonabike.com and www.trentobike.org.
For rooms I would strongly advice you to book ahead, that time of year and during the TDF it would be very difficult to find rooms.
I hope this helps some, congrats on your wedding and have a happy New Year :)
cheers
