If drivers worry you, you won't enjoy riding in Japan. Drivers here are not used to road bikes for the most part. That's why I set off at 4.30/5AM on Sundays and make it to the mountain roads before the traffic builds up. Trouble is now, that time of the morning is pitch dark and freeeeeezing! Talk about growing some balls, I nearly lost mine to frost bite a couple of weekends ago - it was below 0C and with the chill factor ..............:D TYSON

That's right, I have never had anyone shouting at me from a car window or the side of the road. People tend to just ignore you because it's not their business.
The same goes for personal property, if it's not theirs they don't touch it. (Maybe different in Tokyo and Osaka) Twice I've left my mobile phone on the saddle of my bike and gone into Starbucks for an hour or so. It was still there when I came out. In England, I would give it 2 minutes, where people think the other persons property is theirs for the taking. Other things I've left behind have always been handed in.
My second bike has been on the back balconey now for 7 years unlocked. (1st floor) and it's still there. The only thing you are guaranteed to get stolen in Japan if you leave them out at night is women's underwear. Thieves are few - perverts are many.:D
11.7-8 200 tt , under 1:14 kilo, race weight under 185lbs, 1700 watt peak power 1600 5 sec. 800 watt 1 min, 300 watt 20 min......last one isnt likely, everything else is within reach
One of mine for this coming year was to ride a sub 5hr solo century (ride time only, thanks to city traffic everywhere).
Welp.. that one got scrapped today and it's now sub 4hr 45min century. Did a solo century today in 4hr 54min ride time. http://www.cycleiwakuni.com/blog/index.php?id=99

Goals - not all or which are specific enough yet ....
FTP@ 300w - 4w/kg - (increase from 250 currently) by end May
Ride a few time trials - break 25 mins for 10 miles by end of August
Complete first road race - to be identified - by mid season
Regularly join club fast group and 'hold my own' within that company
Complete challenging century ride - to be identified - by end season
Ok. I have various goals but they'll all fall into place if I reach this one:
5.0 w/kg FTP.
It's a crazy goal but, hell, food is overrated.

Have my first win racing the 4 To win with a style. At least finishing the Housatonic race with the main group. Catting up to 3 is a bonus if all goes well. Obviously, for them to happen, my FT has to go up.
Second, quite my current job and to find another one. Too busy training and didn't have time to even think about looking for another job or career.

What club do you ride with? There are quite a few 4th cat races in the midlands to start off with, or lots of LVRC if you're a vet?
Goals are mainly to stay injury free and have a better season than my 'on form' period last year.
Not decided on specific races yet but to get up there in national series road races and regionals champs - medal.
- Do whatever I need to get my teammates or me across the finish line first
- Upgrade to Cat 3
- Enjoy myself
I am a newbie road biker, got my road bike last April and Kinetic trainer in August.
3 - 4 month goals, I figure my point of diminishing easy returns will be after 250w
- increase FTP to 250w, increased from 200 to 220 last 4 months
- drop from 190lbs to 180lbs
start regularly riding 60-70mile club rides
and hopefully be able to play 45mins of soccer at full stretch
