Christians targeted again?

Since 2001, over 90,000 cyclist's have joined Cycling Forums to discuss topics from general cycling to equipment, training, racing and travel or vacation destinations (especially in europe during the tour de france). We also feature an great deals in our online store, 100's of articles, classifieds and product reviews.

That's the title but really I refer to non-Christians who maybe just want to keep the status quo and celebrate Christmas.
Once again we have an airport story and once again we see the same old do-gooders attempting to accommodate immigrants at all costs.
Nope, it ain't Nadia Edwina - she's still busy fighting her case.
This time, Rabbi Elazar Bogomilsky commented to officials at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport that the celebration of Hanukah ought to be represented in the Christmas festivities. Therefore, airport officials removed all the Christmas trees from the airport as they concluded it was offensive to celebrate Christmas. :confused:
Typical baloney!
So, again I will repeat my simple view. If Jewish people want to celebrate their own festivities they can do this in Israel. America is a Christian country and has been for many centuries, for good or for bad.
If you don't like bullfighting don't live in Spain. If you feel offended by pizza, forget living in Italy. Immigrants must adapt to the country they choose to live in, not the other way around.
Now I hear the Christmas tree are back again after irate Americans protested.

I tend to agree - if we tend to everybodies needs we'll end up with planet with one religion, one language, one colour, one type of cheese, one wine and heavan forbis - one type of bicycle!!!!

My friend had a similar situation at his work. A co-manager of his didn't like Christmas and the Kris Kringle thing because she was a Jehovah's Witness. so to appease her (and steer away from a law suit) the company banned all celebrations like KK's and gift exchanges unless they were off-site.

Then that person gets mad because no one invites her to the gift exchanges they throw! Well, hu-llooo.... cuz you suck, that's why! lol!

That's the point where human rights and liberalism may convert to fascism and I kid you not. If the rights of immigrants are always put before the rights of an indiegenous population, you wind up with a very negative situation developing.
In Holland, they gradually came to realise that Dutch identity, Dutch values of tolerance and Dutch identity was being overwhelmed by the emphasis on free immigration. This is why they had a rethink and the point is this:
If myself I wish to go and live in Holland, I'm required to learn about Holland, study Dutch, accept the norms of the Dutch culture and agree to fit in within that country. This applies to me the same as people who may arrive in Holland from Israel, Iran, Africa or wherever.
I don't see these demands as being unreasonable. I believe people have a right to their own cultural identities and, in this case, the U.S. is a Christian country where Christmas has always been celebrated.

If myself I wish to go and live in Holland, I'm required to learn about Holland, study Dutch, accept the norms of the Dutch culture and agree to fit in within that country. This applies to me the same as people who may arrive in Holland from Israel, Iran, Africa or wherever.
You don't need to do nothing if you wish to live in Holland, just by a ticket, rent a flat and inscribe yourself at city hall... EU, remember?

They don't believe in Jesus Christ - so why celebrate Christmas?

I love God and I am a Christian, but this country was not set up as a Christian country, nor should it have been (I believe that would be called a theocracy, like the Muslim countries). Freedom of religion, any religion, is one of the reasons our constitution was framed. Thomas Jefferson was a diest, not a Christian. Christians r also commanded to be charitable, like some of the indians were to our ancestors who came here in search of a better world. You're making this statement regardless of whether or not they're US citizens? So you're saying Jews should go to Israel if they want to celebrate Chanukka? And Muslims to mecca too I suppose. And what about hindus and all the other religions americans embrace? Where would you send native americans? Canada?

I think that if a public place like an airport, school, library, city hall, etc. is going to display something religious, then all the major religions should be represented. It's only fair.

America isn't a christian country. It's a democracy where the individual is protected and respected. If you have a problem with that then it's your problem.

What I don't understand is the "offensive" part...

Let the Christians do what they want, Muslims do what they want, Jehovahs Witnesses do nothing (he he he - I used to be one of those).

Instead of stopping each other from doing our thing - let everybody do their thing. Religion is supposed to be about tolerance not persecution. Oh wait. Ah. Never mind :-)

I suppose it must have far more meaning for actual believers. Mind you, many people might not be aware Christianity borrowed very heavily from pagan traditions. The Romans celebrated the Saturnalia on 25th of December and the same principle of gifts being exchanged was common place.
In a certain sense, Christianity itself is derived from western tradition so it still ought to have some significance for non-Christians.

So far as I'm aware, the U.S.A. inherited democracy and its legal system via Europe and Europe got it from the Roman Empire.
Christianity filtered into the U.S.A. via the pioneers and early immigrants, many of whom were religious.
There were other religions but these were a minority.
Come on, David, be honest. When you switch on the T.V. and see those old movies such as the Wizard of Oz, Dorothy isn't sitting around the fire celebrating a Jewish Festival is she. I can think of scores of Christmas movies that hardly depict Jewish or Moslems festivals but Americans have been sticking up their Christmas trees for hundreds of years. Why change? Some people just enjoy Christmas - even as an excuse for a good oiling of liquor.

Christianity borrowed a heck of a lot from non-Christian festivities and tradition. I suspect Christians may have adopted the Dec 25th celebration day from a Celtic festival held on this day.
Christmas always passes me by as I'm usually too busy to get much free time and take it in.
