I use the same MTB for all off road activities climbing, downhill, cross country etc. I typicially like a wide tyre on the back - 2.2 - 2.3 and a 1.9 on the front. Is this a good mix?

i dont know a lot but i would think a bigger tyre on the front would be better. i use 2.35 front and back and the front grips well.i used to use 2.10 and slid a lot but use whatever you feel is right for you. sorry thats no help.:D

I ride 2.25's both ends i do general cross country, all terain climbs and down hill runs.Nothing to hairraising or technical. Most of the time we ride up the mountain gravle/sand trail and then fly down getting speeds of 65k's/h on the hard pack gravle. My tyres give me the grip and confidence i need.I use the Scott 2.25 kevlar beaded tyres. If you can say the same about the mix of sizes you use,i say, stay with it.:)

Thanks for that guys! I've been thinking about a wider at the front and as I'm looking to change the bike I'll will probably go with that! Ta!

+1...with the HT I use on sandy trails, I run a 2.1 front for cushion and control, a 1.95 rear for traction (saves energy not having to push a wider tire)

Defiantly wider on the front. I run the Specialized adrenaline 2.0 tires, because there are no measurement standards in the tire industry it actually works out to be a 2.2 sized tire by any one else's standards.
