Worst Road Rage Experience
The worst (and scariest) experience was being chased by a loser in an Alpha Spider (nice mustard/baby poo colour...........classy) after clipping his mirror having to go 'round him as he was double parked.
Oh, he did manage to stop me, outside the nearest pub. Pubs and cafes in the area do good business from the local training cyclists etc. He was so furious that he jumped out of the car and kicked my front wheel breaking a spoke.
A crowd of thousands (I exagerate)saw the incident. Well, who,s side was the crowd on...........? There was me in full psudo pro gear, flash bike etc being 'attacked' by a driver of a poseur car. They were baying for blood saying things like "do ya know how much those wheels are worth? 400 bucks. You are going to pay."
I made a tidy profit after asking him to come with me to the nearest Police Station. He was in a panic because he had left his wife in the shop picking up some photos............
Would he have been in the dog house......?
I love my work........:D

Give a man enough rope....and he will hang himself...

Interesting enough, there are so many cyclist out there...if you (a driver) want to take on a cyclist...you better make sure that you can take on a mob.

Well done, I bicycle in NYC and I am a bit of pscyhopath (I also am young and my hormones raging) Thus I am generally very aggressive on the road. I have never clipped a mirror, I make sure to slow down as soon as I have less than a few feet of clearance but, many times other drivers are idiots. I have had an incident where a taxi cab cut me off and I rammed right into his rear quarter panel. I got off my bike and abused his rear end so profusely that he took off down the street with his bumper caved in. Another time some soviet woman decided that Stop signs are too confusing for her and was slowly running it, the whole time while looking the opposite direction, I am crossing at the time and she is now crawling over me, I jumped off the bike quickly and threw it on the side, jumped on her hood and proceeded to stomp and scuff her paint job, I was tired, hung over and it was morning, I had enough phlegm to completely splatter her windshield. She just was sitting there on the brakes staring terrified. I finally got off her hood, went up to her window and began to scream that she should stop and look at stop signs and a bunch of profanity. She took off like a mad woman. Had another similar incident where I dented some other lady's quarterpanel as well. She took off like a bat out of hell. Coincidentially, I have issues with asian and female drivers more often than others. It isn't that I am biased or anything, and they certainly are not a majority of the drivers. It appears to me that they just seem to be incapable? Maybe just luck.

heh...I was riding in the left lane of a 4-lane road in Sydney, no cars around, this car pulls up behind me and starts revving it's engine, about 50cm behind my back tyre. Then there's a sqeual of rubber as it pulls around me, stops in front of me (still no other traffic that would have prevented it from overtaking in the first place). So I continue past it, between it & the gutter, when the car starts driving along with me, trying to ride me off the road. High gutter, so I couldn't jump off the road, all the while the driver yelling out his window at me.

Dickhead driver, personalised numberplate FSTLNE (what a wank), feel free to cause some damage if you see it.

THE TIME:Sunday night. early June
THE PLACE Sydney Rd, Brunswick

Now admittedly i accept blame for the accident, but what follows is the cockroach cyclists fault.

Turning right out of a side street when halfway thru the turn "BANG". I knew instantly that it wasn't a car as the bang wasn't loud enough. So I've then pulled over to the side of the road & got out to see what had happened. Where upon a pedestrian told me what she saw,the cyclist on the road. So I did what I thought was the right thing and tried to render assistance. It was downhill from here.I went back to my,read:4WD to get first aid kit and space blanket.& even told the wife to ring for an ambulence.Upon retuning to where i thought the injured cyclist was, he was gone.I heard alot of screaming & yelling back near the car at which point i found our injured cyclist kicking the s.h.i.t out of my car and hurling abuse at my wife and 3 year old son. Instantly the hair on the back of my neck stood up and i went into self defence mode. Back at the car i told the little vermon to back off. He then said "to go forth & multiply"Typical 4WD driver" Then i retorted "Tuff guy in the lycra are we?" at this point i could'nt believe what i was about to see. The R>SOLE took a swing at me, not just the once either. So after I knocked him flat on his arse his mood changed to being very apologetic.

The goose was not wearing light clothing and there wasn't any lighting on his bike either. This is in no way justification for the fact that i didn't see him either.

It is said somewhere in another thread around here that if you want to take on a cylist be prepared to take on a MOB. I suggest that if you want to take on me and my family and my 4WD you had better bring a MOB.

I'm not trying to cause friction, or antagonize, people.I'm just respondig to a threaded topic. I'm a commited competative cylist who also has to share the roads with vehicles, not buy choice tho....
FOOTNOTE If you are going to stoop to the level of the aforementioned pillick,I ask just 1 thing...

DON'T DO IT WITH YOUR CLUB JERSEY ON. It makes you look even more stupid....Not to mention your club

Mark,

Looks like you got off fairly lightly then. As you knew who was at fault you would have of course contacted to Police so that the relevant statements would be taken for insurance purposes.........

What was the outcome?

What I'm getting at is that if you want to injure/kill pedestrians/cyclists in the city, best do it in a small/city car. Gives them a small opportunity to avoid an accident. Looks more favourable in court.

I don't condone the actions of either of you.

Bloody Melbourne mentality. Bad attitude breeds bad attitude.

Okay, let's get this straight....Motorist hit cyclist. Motorist immediately stops at the scene of the accident. Motorist summons help and gets equipment to render first aid until ambulance comes.

And this is a "bad thing"? How many threads do we read about motorist hits cyclist and drives off? Yeah, the accident shouldn't have happened but you can't unring a bell. When an accident does happen, I think that Mark's response is appropriate (get help, render help until more help arrives).

As far as the jackass taking a swing at the motorist, I understand temper and I understand adrenaline making a person slightly on the "peaking" side, but throwing a couple of punches??

I dare say it was a good thing it was Gabriel who was dodging the fists because if the cyclist had taken a swing at me, he wants to hope the first one counts because if I got up off the pavement, all hell would break loose.

- I only admittied to the fault of being lazy when it came to not looking hard enough for cylists.
- Running to his aid was not an effort to conceal fault or blame i thought it was the human thing to do
- As he hit me on the left side of the vehicle he has been deemed to be at legal fault.(Victorian road rules)
- Police did attend. the little s.h.i.t. tried accuse me of assaulting him.
- What he failed to realize was there were witnesses that said he started on me first.
- Yes I was breathalized, blew 0.00 b.a.c.
- ended up in court in February of this year
THE RESULT:
He was ordered to pay for the damages to my vehicle $1700, court/legal costs of $650 And was placed on an 18mnth good behaviour bond due to the nature of his violent outburst towards my wife and son.as well as the wilfull damage comitted after the fact
Magistrate also stated that in future, for his own benefit, he should make himself more visible by at least having lighting on his bike....which the magistrate then continued to state this "That no lighting whilst riding after sundown was in breach of the regulations pertaining to cylists and road use".

Stay on the black stuff......

P.S. this isolated incedent has left a bitter taste in my mouth but it has in no way dented my enthusiasm for cycling.Nor the rights of the cycling public at large...

Good to see justice has been done. I think many car drivers are not as lucky. If the cyclist died due to a collision with a car they would have to find the $400.00 excess.
.............now where is the 4WD forum?

I spent all my school life riding bikes around Melbourne (way back in the 70's when mullets were in style and sharpies were dickheads). Oh, it's so good to see that things haven't changed much there. Bloody Victorians, give you nothing, take you nowhere!

I now live in Tassie, but hey, we have some great morons here as well. Recently on an evening ride after work I was yelled at twice by passengers passing in 4WD's. They were going too fast for me to understand and I was well to the left on major highways and no impediment to traffic. Oh well, small things amuse small minds.

What did worry me though was that about a year ago on the same road, some idiot drove close to three cyclists so his passenger could open the door and send them sprawling all over the tarmac. The passenger got 6 months at her majesty's pleasure. Luckily all the riders are OK now, although one did spend some time in hospital (can't remember the specifics).

Does make you wonder doesn't it?

I'm originally from Tas. (Lonny)myself. I think I remember the incident. I think it was in '95 or '96 along Riverside (W. Tamar Hwy) and the group were competetive cyclists on a training ride.

Mark this was much more recent. Last year or so on the East Derwent Hwy between Geilston Bay and Risdon Vale (say no more).

It's a bit scary if it's happened before.

What about in parks where there are people walking their dogs? Don't you like to slow down for people like that? My dog has been hit before, even though I keep him close to me, and it makes me mad that only 10% of cyclists out there slow down for people like me.
Very sad...........

I don't understand how bicyclists can't figure out if they're vehicles (like the law says) or bicycles like you guys say because on the road drivers are supposed to watch out for you but on sidewalks pedestrians are supposed to watch out for you!!!!!!

Don't you think because a person is walking you should slow down and not whizz past them just in case they move at the wrong time and all of a sudden...........SMASHHHHHHH!!!

It's all about right of way...... If you don't want to be run over on the streets, don't weave in and out of traffic, riding beside cars on the shoulder, this doesn't leave much room for them, and besides, have you EVER seen a motorcycle do the things you people do???? Just a freakin' thought.

BLECHHHH

Ah yes, dogs. I suggest your dog was not close enough. Reminds me of a situation when riding on a shared walkway. Approaching 3 women walking 5 dogs on leads. Ring bell, no reaction. Friend rings bell, no reaction. We both ring bells, no reaction. Yell abuse, finally some action. And this was from a trio coming towards us and in clear view. Seems they did not wish to offend the sensibilities of their dogs.

And the 'sidewok' problem. I too am a pedestrian. I never move out of the way of a 'cyclist' using a footpath. Annoys the crap out of the ferals.
The weaving in and out of traffic is an inexperience problem. When experienced cyclists ride, they usually stay on a line that is uninterrupted by parked cars. Riding on the shoulder of the road is so 1970's. Drivers don't like this as it usually means that they are required to actually wait to 'go around' rather than just hammer through.
