View Full Version : Ebay bike
Hi All,
I want to start riding again and am looking for a cheap bike that will get me around. I am 185cm and 90kgs. As I am on a tight budget I have been cruising ebay and come across this bike. I know that many people here wouldn't touch it with a flagpole but I would only be using a couple times a week and not doing anything to extreme with it. I would like to take it offroad every now and again though.
Here is the link (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/New-24-Speed-Shimano-Gear-Alloy-Mountain-Bike-26-Wheel_W0QQitemZ260054651428QQihZ016QQcategoryZ7297QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)
What do you reckon is it worth it or not. They seem to be selling for around the AU$220 mark.
Thanks in advance
Dan
Please don't double post!
Please don't double post! :mad:Sorry about that. Just wasn't sure where the best place to post was.
I left an apology in the other thread.
Hi HexarDan,
I'm not one to advocate spending big dollars on a bike if you can't afford to but I would have to advise against the one you are looking at. The components would really not be able to hold up to taking it off road, period. It would be okay for just cruising around the block but I wouldn't go too much farther with it. If you must buy on eBay then make sure you are able to look at the product first. You need to know it will fit right. If you know what to look for in a bike then maybe look at second hand. Others might swear off it but I've successfully bought secondhand gear. The main thing is being able to view the item before making a bid or purchase. If you could save a little more then I would recommend buying something new from your lbs.
Here are some links just to give you an idea of what's out there in your price range. Although the components won't be top of the range they will at least be better then the ones available on the bike you are looking at on eBay.

Actually, it doesn't look that bad, and if it's abused and maintained, it should last for years.
I had an old CCM with a SIS RD, no-name components and it ran for over 15 years...ended up as my winterbike, and the salt finally did it in.
I don't know how your prices compare to Canada's, but that bike would be around $400 CAD (new) up here
Thanks for all of your replies. It looks like the prices are blowing out a little. So I might check out the local bike shop before I make a bid.
Cheers,
Dan
