View Full Version : neck pain
Can anyone advise me the best way to alleviate neck and lower back pain whilst riding? Im 5 ft 11, and my bike frame size is 58cm. Is it a to do with handlebar height? If so, what is the recommended height etc for me?
Would really appreciate some advice on this, as it is painful.
thanks

There're many possible reasons why you're getting pain. I too suffered from a tightness across the shoulders, causing pain, but I changed the setup of my bike. I've got long riser bars and a shorter 10 Degree stem which brings me more upright. The loading on the arms is reduced and hence the strain on the neck and upper shoulder.
I'm also 5' 11" with a medium Giant so with the saddle set for my leg length, I was leaning way down into the handlebars. After the change I've improved my control, stability and comfort.

Your probably riding a bike that is too long. My husband who is 6'4" rides a 59cm. Without knowing more measurements, I can't say for sure, but I work at a bike shop, and most 5'11"ish people ride 54-56cm bikes.

Thanks for that, but i have always rode 58cm frames. so its not the frame size, i feel its more to do with the stem & handlebar set up, thats what i needed more clarity on.
