Streetmap for cyclists?
Hey folks,
I was just wondering if there's anything/anywhere that I can find something like streetmap.co.uk for cyclists.
For instance, I want to start taking roads in on my 10 mile commute (from Kirkintilloch into the centre of Glasgow) instead of a (now extremely muddy) canal path. However, I'm unsure about part of the route, and whether I can actually take a bike on some of the roads (is it JUST motorways I'm not allowed on?)
If there was a route planner which could give you the best route, and on cycle allowable roads, I'd love to hear about it.
Thanks in advance.

There's a set of streetmaps covering the whole of London with some roads marked in green which are supposed to be the best ones for cyclists. The maps themselves are excellent (and free) but I don't agree with which roads they recommend. That's the trouble with that sort of thing; you're relying too much on someone elses opinion.

Come to think of it, my TomTom might have a 'safe for cyclists' option - I'll look into that, but if anyone else has an idea on this, I'd love to hear it.

Although it's not a route planner as such, I find www.routeslip.com a very useul resource. Using a google maps interface (so it's on and off road), you can plot routes and it gives you an elevation profile. There are currently hardly any UK users but every route you plot is made public, so the larger the user base becomes, the more useful it is.

Cheers for that, really useful for calculating distance too. Unfortunately, it crashed as I saved my route - but it was still useful. Hopefully they'll fix my specific bug, and it'll all be cool soon.
Thanks again.
