Power on trainer vs power on road
Fergie once said that his threshold power on the road is 50 watts more than on his trainer. I don't get it. Can someone explain?
If this is "normal" then what is the "average" increase on the road(percentage or figure)?
I have a Kurt Kenetic and it's meter on order.

Anything is possible.
It doesn't surprise me that some do better on the trainer than on the road.
I bet that if Fergy was fortunate enough to have access to a closed circuit Forumula One race track to do his FTP testing, he'd probably be able to generate more outdoor than indoor.

Anyway, those other threads have a lot of discussion on the why's and wherefore's. Different people seem to handle the transition differently, for a variety of reasons.

I think this perceived power difference has a lot to do with motivation and a few factors one encounters outdoors. For instance, it's hard to want to push myself to the brink of vomiting when I am 3 hours from home and lost in Belgium, watching for traffic; freaking suicidal mopeds, “drivers”, etc., stray sheep, or have the road polluted with a million acorns, whatever… However, doing intervals in my living room and pushing myself to the very edge happens somewhat regularly. Somehow hyperventilating, and hoping to be Reaped while laying on the floor in one's living room in privacy is sooo much better - in those cases yes my Normalized power seems to be fairly high relative to my Normalized outdoor power.
So in short in these instances, my indoor power seems higher than outdoors – I would like to point out that these are the same legs I use outdoors, so they must be able to produce the same power outdoors as they do indoors. I believe that since I have a healthy desire to not become road kill prevents the full exploitation of my legs, Power, outdoors.

http://www.cyclingforums.com/search.php? ;)Good references and reading material in both those threads. I'd been a bit curious as to why my RPE was noticeably higher indoors than outdoors. Having a grand total of < 10 trainer rides, it is still definitely an adjustment. A few more indoor rides, another good fan and I think things will be right on their way.
As for the third thread you mentioned....I'll keep it handy :)
