SRM newb questions. HR?
I've just bought a used SRM. It's a 2002 model, and the battery was replaced about 1 year ago. A few questions:

* It did not include a HR strap. I'm told I ought to use a "non-coded" polar strap, and that the newer, "wearlink" coded straps aren't as good. True?

* How frequently does the battery need to be changed? I'm hearing every couple of years.

* How weather resistant is the SRM? I live in Seattle. It's really rainy here. That's the big reason I avoided the PT.

If there's a link to this kind of information that I'm missing, feel free to direct me. Thanks!

True?I've worn a number of different brands (including Polar) of non-coded straps with mine and they all work fine. Can't comment on the "wearlink" specifics.

* * How frequently does the battery need to be changed? I'm hearing every couple of years.I think the manual indicates ~1500 hours of life is expected? I have yet to replace mine, although it's not that old. I suspect a search of the forum would find a more definitive answer.

I've got both an SRM and PTSL and, in this respect, the SRM generally does better, in my experience. I've had my SRM soaked to the bone and it just keeps going -- although, if you wrap the PT computer head with plastic wrap and keep the contacts dry along with keeping the hub cap seals lightly greased, mine has held up pretty well in really wet conditions. I don't do anything special to the SRM before a rainy ride. As always, YMMV.

I also just bought (in july) an older SRM - Powercontrol IV. I started using it with my old Polar strap, and had some problems with the heart rate reception. SRM recommended me to get a Suunto belt instead wich I did. The model name is SU4806. It works perfectly.
