i feal both you guys pain but i have been on the utha end of the abuse as a cyclist who did nothing wrong. i was huggin the curb and some moron P plater thought itd b funni to zoom by inches from me horn honkin and yelling and abusing me out of a window. then turning around a smoking it up near me after a yelled shit back at him. sum ppl r just plan wankers. but i do agree with you guys on the fact that a majority of cyclists think they own the place.

That bloke was doing well until the last sentence. Majority of cyclists think they own the place? One; where hell is the statisitcs to back that. Two; you always get a minority of dickheads not a majority.

I think the trouble is while a lot of us cyclists that participate on forums ride something better than the kmart special, we get tainted by the idiot dero riders with no helmet no light and on the wrong side of the road.

EDIT: that bloody rego argument. We should be given a tax rebate because we dont pollute, do not add to congestion and saving the health system money by not being fat.

yeah, i jut put in the bit about paying for my 8kg (actually, i lied, its 9.5  ) bike in silver coins, just to annoy them. Ilke your idea of the rebates.... Im fit, I cost less. Been to docs 4 times in 6 years. migraine, sliced open my shin, found a lump in my neck, not cancer yay! , and to get a lump cut outta my wrist. Now compaire this o someone who has diabetes, heart and lung issues etc. Yeah, we are cheaper. REBATE ME!!!!!

These are an extreme minority. If you think about the last 1000 cars that overtook you, which ones do you remember.

The overtake and then slow down to turn left or park really irritates me. If I was a truck, I'd bet that they wouldn't do it them.

Sounds like the left only lane thing is that classic problem. Too dangerous to get into the correct lane, but you are in the wrong lane. I prefer to be right, but not dead right.

Actually, there was an interesting rant in a paper I was reading recently (MX, I think) where the writer (who may have been a truck driver) was bemoaning the rudeness/arrogance of drivers who overtake trucks and buses only to slow down quickly to make the next turn. He was wondering why they just can't wait behind the truck or bus until their turn comes up. Impatient lot these drivers are. I actually had a similar incident going home the other night. I was driving in the lane next to the kerb on Ryde Rd at Pymble. It was after 11.00pm at night when a p-plater in a 4wd came around from behind me, overtook and came back into my lane and then slowed down really quickly only to turn into the next street. That really annoyed me. There was no other traffic on the road and I was already travelling at about 80kph which is actually faster than the signposted speed for that road. Are they really in that much of a rush they just can't wait the couple of seconds extra?

My personal favourites are the ones who overtake you when you're slowing for a red light and then slam on the brakes in front of you so they can pull up in time.

I always think "congratulations mate, you beat me to the red light". If I'm driving the STi and traffic permits, I usually entertain myself by launching around them when the lights go green. :p

He got a away with it.

I used to drive a truck alot for work - annoying when ppl cut into my stopping zone comming up to a red light. It's like how would you like to be slammed onto the oncomming traffic or your car remodelled!!

I used to a have a Turbo VL commdore about 10 years ago hehe :D over powered even in its day the old commode!! not much use in peak traffic.

Whats with commodore drivers?

I personally think that the low prices of used commodores are attracting low class drivers (and their friends) to this car.

Just had a beer bottle thrown at my back from a commodore that was going 80km/h. Bottle shattered on impact, fortunately missing all the important parts of my body. Got a red sore on my behind tho.

Used to think that because ACT has such a visible presence of cyclists that motorist would also respect cyclists on the road. Unfortunately this incident has proven otherwise. Lots of idiots around.

im a member of the just commodores forums, this is the i guess motorists side of the story, i say this peacefully.

i have no problem what so ever with the cycelists on the road who are going about their business properly, far left as PRACTICLE not being a nusance, but its the cycelists who arent that give cycelists a bad name, i was coming home down maroondah highway in nunawading a cycelist was riding in the middle of the middle lane, he wasnt there because he was turning off because he was still on the same road several Ks later.

this is where the attitude comes into it, every car or truck that even flinched, he would eitha abuse or spit on their car. thats not on.

another situation, i was coming down mount dandy tourist road on my road bike, doing just on 60ks (the limit) i had 3 cycelists fly past me, im estimating over 70 maybe even 80ks, now if i did that, i could be fined, but the fact is that a cop isnt going to write them a fine, so why should i have to do the limit if they dont?

just seems to me as a double standard thing. i was talking to a customer at a job site one day a while ago, now correct me if im wrong??? i said the same thing as ive just said, his reply was "that doesnt apply to us because we are a class D?? vehicle?" so i fired back with well if your a class D VEHICLE you still should come under the same rules as any other vehicle, if not, next time i see a cycelisty jump onto the footpath to get around traffic, if i do that on my road bike is that acceptable"

i can see both sides of the debate, but i just think as amotorist that if cycelists didnt have the attitude of were special on the road, we are the boss of it then there wouldnt be a problem.

correct me if im wrong on any part of that

Commodore forum. I'll keep it in mind for when I'm in need of some intelletual stimulation.:pROFL i will agree with that, im only there for a laugh. too many idiots particually P platers who think putting big wheels and a loud exhaust on a VN or a VS makes it tough.

I think the problem is that most cyclists are well aware that they won't get fined for speeding, so they'll do it. If you knew you could get away with it then you'd most likely do it too. It certainly doesn't justify it, but on the same token it doesn't justify abusing cyclists rights just because they were speeding.

i just think that the cycelists push the rules a bit too much, remember the road was origenaly made for cars and we do pay registration to use it

All of it. Particularly the spelling.well i thought actually signing up and being reasonable would get me both sides of the debate, seems i was wrong

People should just respect each other no matter what mode of transport.

There's nothing wrong with a commodores as I have owned two of them many years ago.

Alot of cyclists are also drivers of motor vehicles and also pay registration. Even using public road transport one contributes to the cost of the roads everyone is a user. Registration costs are based on weight of vehicle, basically the heavier the vehicle the more wear/damage they can cause. A bike would barely contribute to wear on the road. Roads are made for all modes transport not just cars. We've already pushed horse and carts away bikes are hear to stay.

Pedestrians don't pay a "pedestrian registration" so does that mean they shouldn't be allowed to use pathways?

I agree the same set of road rules should apply for all road users so we can all get along. There are good and bad examples of both. Don't feel bad, you have put across a good point. I don't like to be put in the same group of "cyclists" that show no regard for road rules and respect for drivers.

well i thought actually signing up and being reasonable would get me both sides of the debate, seems i was wrongThe rules are that cyclists and cars have an equal right to the road. Simple right?

Now onto the road registration fee thing - Cyclists aren't the problem, cars aren't the problem - 99% of wear is caused by trucking companies who overload their vehicles. A truck which is overloaded by 25% causes 244% more wear. (AUSTROADS)

I'm sorry to hear about your bad experiences with cyclists, but don't paint everyone with the same brush. I'm sure there are bad drivers as well.

Disclosure : I use to own a commodore, I sold it for a Ford Falcon. Which is not as good.

I cant see any attempt by you to 'be reasonable' neither do I see any attempt by you to 'get both sides of the debate'. What I do see is you sprouting an illiterate diatribe of nonsense.

By the way the word I believe you are trying to master is 'cyclists'. Perhaps I should call your car a 'broom-broom'?

You are trying to create a debate that is non-existent. Both vehicles (cars and bikes) have equal rights to use of the roads (albeit differing obligations). Both vehicles have a renegade small percentage of users who flaunt the road law. That is life.well i wasnt coming here to start an argument mate so i dont know what your problem is. all your doing is showing your true colours, your ignotant here and im guessing your ignorant on the road too.
End of that.

by contrast:

You are probably right some ppl can't see both sides of the debate if there is one.
