Is Evolution Baloney?

i used to have this neighbour who was very religious. She wasnt always this way but one day she just 'found God'....

now she used to have conversations with God. I dont mean praying, she said that God sits on the edge of her bed and she discusses her problems with him for half an hour then he goes off to visit some one else....

i used to think she was a basket case but she was utterly sincere.

I know that science utterly refutes the theory of creationism but this woman is just as adamant as the sceince bods. So whats to say that God didnt create the illusion of science to give the 'high maintenance' people something more solid to go on.

I mean if you didnt believe in God (or aliens on the moon who create people) and you didnt believe in science (evolution) where do you do from there?

nah, God or little green men, whatever pokes your pig...just go with what you beileve and say off the ganga for feck sake...

I wasn't aware aliens were that fashionable.

Some humans evolved from apes. Some were unsucessful.So thats where my body hair comes from.

I believe life originates from an intelligent force but not exactly a man with a beard sitting on a cloud. The trouble with religion is people seem to have a need to personify a creator so the creator becomes just like us with the same feelings and sense of logic.
To counter the bad things that take place, people then go on to attribute the bad stuff to the devil while God has to be good in the way we view good.
You can maybe find God in Mother Nature. If you respect nature and other animals that share the planet, you can harnass it all for good. If you disrespect Mother Nature, then tragedy follows, famines, environmental issues and wars.
People look at Katrina and ask why it happens but, in reality, it's we who are poisoning the planet. Surely we were given sufficient intelligence to be aware of this.

I don't think science is at a stage it can refute creationism. We don't even fully understand how time functions yet.
I don't think the world was created by a man with a white beard on a cloud but I think there is some intelligence that gave rise to order in the cosmos. But probably we're talking about intelligence not as we know it. Maybe people deep down know there is some intelligence behind life and therefore personify a concrete being as a creator.

1) I believe humans always existed as homo sapiens.

2) So, I think Darwin made a huge leap in logic from apes to men.1) Me too. Humans are homo sapiens, but that has nothing to do with proving or disproving evolution.

It's not as large of a leap when you also consider: Australopithecus afarensis, Australopithecus africanus, Homo rudolfensis, Homo habilis, Homo ergaster, Homo erectus, Homo heidelbergensis, and our ill-fated cousin Homo neanderthalensis.

I believe species evolve in the case of wolves to domestic pooches e.t.c. But Darwin saw similarities between humans and apes and then made a direct link. Today, the majority of the scientific community still show those graphs of apes to cavemen to modern humans e.t.c.
