Because Ireland is staging the 2006 Ryder Cup - we're currently being saturated with golf coverage.
Golf coverage was always high here - now it's gone supersonic.
I don't play golf myself - but those people I know who do, tell me that it's the greatest game ever.
They tell me it's addictive and tell mehow the Ryder Cup is this that and t'other.
I start mentioning the ENECO Tour or the Vuelta, all I get is blank expressions of incomprehension and "Veulta, wha'?"
Anyone of you play golf?
Any of you have pro/anti golf opinions?
The sooner this Ryder Cup is out of the way - the better.
Nobody is safe when I play golf.
I'm the best argument in favor of a helmet rule.
Seriously. I try to play a good game, but its best for everyone that I don't golf much.
.
My golf experience is this: played crazy golf. Been to a driving range...... once. Played 7 holes on a par 3 course. And from that I would say its a good laugh to play (i'm rubbish by the way), especially since you go round the course with a group of friends. Can talk as you go round, share some jokes etc, bit like a steady paced group ride. I think its a great game.
For some reason I don't mind watching either, on first thoughts it would be a really boring sport to watch but maybe its just the awe factor at how good these guys really are.
However, cycling is still very much my first sport and I wish they would put more live coverage on in GB.
I enjoy the round of golf on a lazy Saturday or Sunday afternoon, when the weather is nice. Something about 3 pals, a nice cool ale, and relative peace and quiet makes it nice.
Although, I hear its alot worse if youre not good at it, i.e. very frustrating. I happen to have the gift, and shoot in the low 80's consistently.

MY OPINION OF IT: HATE X 100 to THE 100TH
POWER. And I did try it. Quit by the 3rd hole when
I realized I could be spending a beautiful day doing
something I enjoyed. No offense to golfer's, I do
things many of them hate, but for me GOLF SUCKS!

The sooner this Ryder Cup is out of the way - the better.Golf is as big of a passion of mine as cycling is. Playing the game anyway. I have followed the PGA Tour as far as the majors go, but not as close as I have followed Euro pro cycling over the past 30 years.
I am watching the German Bank tournament on the TV as I write this. Tiger is simply kicking ass.....
Golf is more interesting to watch for me then cycling is since the drug affair of this summer that rocked the Tour.
I did give up the game years ago, but I have gave it some thought to take it up again. The great thing about golf is that if you are a competitive person like me, you play against yourself.
To play golf in Ireland/Scotland would be a dream of mine.
Tiger Woods really seems to have let down the American team in this years rider cup. I watched a bit, he couldn't hit a golf ball into an olympic sized swimming pool.
Too many times he has shined in small tournaments and individual competitions but when it comes to the big stuff he falls to pieces.
I dont think he deserves the title of No1.

I dont think he deserves the title of No1. Tiger Woods has destroyed everyone in every major tournament in the world. He plays the game better then anyone in the history of the game. The Ryder Cup is a circus show.

He is good ,I guess.I am not a golfer and have no desire to be. I heard that an Irish tabloid or some form of media in Ireland pissed him off over some things written about his wife and linking her to porn.
Maybe that is why he is off form.

btw, anyone get to watch the old form game on Saturday....classic game.
Speaking of the Ryder cup.......
EUROPE WON!!!!!!!!! And not just any old win, a complete thrashing too.
Stick that in your collective pipes and smoke it America.

Imagine how devastated I am. Beaten at golf! How will I live with the shame.
Yawn!!

I think that brings up an interesting subject of how certain great athletes can rise to the occasion when they have to ..and then are mediocre at other times when it really does not matter. Almost everytime this season when it was important, Tiger Woods played way beyond everyone else. Then he falls down in the Ryder cup. Why?
Is the world of sports changing? Are athletes starting to specialize within the sports?
I have a theory on this. I believe that certain athletes, the ones that are in a class of their own [Tiger Woods, Armstrong[TDF], Michael Jordon, ] simply think differently then other athletes. They have something that drives them differently then what the average athlete has. And whatever it is, it cannot be sustained at all times.
Then when they reach the status of a "Nike" athlete, they have other time consuming things in life to focus on other then just the sport. So it is very difficult to concentrate on "sports excellence" at all times when competing. Thus the drop to mediocre. I

Woods record in the Ryder Cup is average compared to his usual level of results.
The man is a phenomenal player but unfortunately when it comes to the Ryder Cup, he doesn't seem to be able to reproduce that form.
There was plenty of speculation on TV as to why TW doesn't seem to be able to replicate that level of form.
Some say that he feels pressure from participating in "team" event - others say that because the PGA is such an individual tour that it is hard to "bond" with people who are you're trying to beat, week after week.
Guess it's one for the sport psychologists.
Still he was the main attraction here last weekend.
For a guy who has so much attention - he comes across really very well, I have to say.
Very balanced, humble. We know TW's well here - he participates each year in a charity golf event at Adare Manor.
Each year TW's there raising millions for charity.
As regards the Ryder Cup : Europe were superb. Clarke, Howell, Garcia, Casey the pick of a great team.

I read a little of the article of the "Dubliner" [?] that portrayed TW's wife as a porn star. What type of paper is the "Dubliner"? [I think I have the name correct] Is it a "gossip" paper similar to what we have in the states?
TW handles himself well. I think you are to something whn you posted about "playing with guys you want to beat each week." I think athletes of TW's nature want to dominate as much as they want to win. Sure, TW keeps it to himself better the Jordon and Armstrong does, but inside I am willing to bet he is on fire.
That's the things we fans have a hard time with. We want our hero's to win, but we want them to be humble. We are asking for a Jekyll and hyde situation. If you follow TW's interviews as often as I do, he exposes this often. He lets it be known he is the alpha dog.
I know he has handled the 'Augusta" club thing well. All the black activists want him to speak out. He let's them he is a golfer and respects the traditions of golf. TW has done more for the black man as far as golf is concerned then he would have alienating the golf powers. A close friend of mine is a black man who handles the game very well. TW inspired him to take the game up.
TW is a class man. A man with set objectives in the golf world.

The Dubliner is a magazine - ostensibly a current affairs magazine.
It published a photo of nude model with Mrs TW's head superimposed on the nude photo of another model.
It hasn't gone down well here with the general public.
Yea golf is good
