CyclingForums.com anti-USA, Why?

Since 2001, over 90,000 cyclist's have joined Cycling Forums to discuss topics from general cycling to equipment, training, racing and travel or vacation destinations (especially in europe during the tour de france). We also feature an great deals in our online store, 100's of articles, classifieds and product reviews.

I'm not so sure. What I've noticed is a lot of changes lately. I don't think Britain has what you would call the "special relationship" with the U.S. at the present time. True, the U.K. does have a better working relationship with the U.S. than Europe but it's not like the Thatcher/Regan years.
Just look at all these changing trends: The U.S. lately has become a more religious, evangelical land with football stadiums converting to holy crusade conference centres. The U.S. has also changed demographically, has it not? There are now thousands of Hispanics and Spanish becoming far more important.
Anyway, not wanting to beat a negative drum but the U.K. seems to have a subservient relationship with the U.S. The current administration is happy so long as Blair send his troops to key locations for moral support but they probably know the people in the U.K. don't really share their value system anything like during the sixties and seventies. Blair just does his duty and that's it.
Things have changed, I think. I also know many Americans who say they are from Canada when in London.

Count me in the group that is surprised we are loathed so by your average Brit. I count them as our only true ally in the world and would support any action militarily or not to come to their aid should they so need it.

The UK is as naive about the terrorists in their midsts as we were pre 9/11 and it's a shame they don't see it. One will never know how many attacks were prevented in the last 5 years by our actions against terrorists and their funding sources.

Either way.....despite the loathing....I still count the UK as our only true ally.

I'm told Pakistan did all the work. We still don't know whether Pakistan may have exaggerated the threat too.

Ok if that biggest terrorist plot in world history had succeeded.....would you want your country to sit idly by or would you want retribution? Would you want to send a message to the world to never, ever, ever try something like that again?

It's hard to play the what if game until you see your countrymen jumping from the 70th story to their death to escape a burning building but try to imagine that it succeeded......and then maybe you can understand our position in the Middle East.

Maybe...but as an American....who admits it.....I don't see the UK any differently than in years past......I would support my country supporting the UK in any situation against any country.

I suspect it's mainly what I'd call the intelligentsia in this country that's anti-American. By intelligentsia, maybe I refer to young, middle-class types who keep up with the political news.
Not all Britons are anti-American.
Typical Britons I view as being very pro-American are guys like Paul McCartney, Ginger Spice, Heather Mills, Robby Williams e.t.c. These kind of Brits seem to love places like L.A. or just prefer to be the other side of the pond.
McCartney made his feeling very clear about 9/11 too. I did hear Macca doesn't care much for Bush but by the same token he's definitely concerned about the American way of life coming under attack.
Sometimes it works the other way. I was surprised David Soul came to live in the U.K. and he now kicks up a lot of fuss with his Jerry Springer show.

i didnt mean to offend your highly tuned sense of culture...yesm the Spice Girls are at a level way above most Americans level of appreciation...to you all you see is 5 slappers...to us Brits all we see are....errr 4 slappers and a fat slapper.

She lives in a fantasy world - likes to think she's an English country gal. I think she prefers New York, though, to any other city.
Madonna is very liberal. I'm a fan but I think she lacked class when she insulted Bush by making sexual gestures onstage. It was a bit crude.
The trouble is, I'm all for peace but I agree with Lance Armstrong. If some dude in a car rides you off the road and nearly kills you on your bike, you can't just offer the offender a bunch of roses. :D

I just received my fathers medals from WWII. Before he died he told me he had not received some of them.
I was fortunate to have his discharge papers and after procrastiation on my part a little red tape rhetoric I received all but one ,which is no longer available.
A purple heart after being wounded twice and the bronze star among a few others.
He payed his dues at the age of 17 and left this world at 67 breaking even with humanity. IMHO

You hit the nail on the head. The truth is the rise in living standards in this country has been a good thing but it also made us soft. This is not the same generation that endured bombings in WW2 and fought Nazi Germany with stoic resistance.
The sixties seemed to me to the ideal balance where things got a lot more liberal but there was still social backbone and less people wringing their hands in the sixties.
Look at the athletes too. Roger Bannister had to be the ideal Briton. How could he possibly be compared to Wayne Rooney? Then you had Henry Cooper - I just finished reading his biography. Funnily enough, Henry feels the same way.

We're getting fatter too! Hell, when I was a wee kid, I recall all those grotesque meals - potatoes and cabbage with everything but there was no obesity. Now the kids are blowing up like baloons on pizza, burgers and fries. They outlawed exercise in some schools as they figure it infringes human rights.
Home computers are fun but that's all some kids do which is why they get fat.

I have a weird philosophy and it's all based on the Spartans. To cut a long story short, the Spartans were an ancient Greek civilization that dedicated itself to physical and mental endurance. The reason behind it was (like modern Israel), Sparta was surrounded by hostile, bigger countries.
For that reason, every Spartan had to be physically and mentally tough to survive. Even the women boxed and wrestled. The food was awful but nobody got fat or obese. It was also considered that intense suffering during training made you stronger and fitter.
In short, it's a good philosophy to adapt to cycling. Plus, the Spartans understood that without some kind of social discipline, society could become soft and defenceless. They took it all to extremes but any dedicated cyclist can adapt the idea of self-discipline and mental toughness into a personal philosophy. :o

It gets worse. Men who weren't "fruitfull" were taken hostage by the women and publically humiliated by them. Likewise, women had to take all their clothes off once a year so the men could see them in their true form, as it were. The idea behind that was to encourage the women to look good and not get plump.
Even the women would have been more butch than we guys in modern times. ;)
P.S. Did I tell you I have a boat engineer? This guy is really good and knows his stuff. He soon found my injectors were injecting watered diesel.
