PT SL problem: Only "---", no icon, new batteries
Symptoms:
* Only dashes ("---") for watt, speed, cadence, heart rate, etc.
* No transmission icon
* Batteries were recently replaced in both hub and computer

I've had a few problems before with moisture getting into the hub, but leaving it open to dry out fixed it.

Anybody with thoughts or experience on this problem?

If the icon doesn't appear when you spin the back wheel make sure the monitor is seated correctly on the receive - take it off and really push it in.

I had the same problem. Long story short, the PT SL is back with Saris who say water has buggered the electronics.

Even though you've recently changed the batteries either check them with a volt meter or try a fresh set. Mine got progressively worse until batteries were only lasting about 10 hours in the hub.

I noted the same problem with Saris and received a new receiver harness. I had the old style (blocky looking) pickup which didn't work well with the SL. They sent me a shark-fin upgrade, works fine.

Do you (or anybody with the same symptoms as I) remember if the computer also showed dashes (---) for heart rate when there was actually something wrong with the receiver or hub?

Or do you think the heart rate problem indicates that the problem is in the computer itself?

Not sure I ever looked at the heart rate when I had this problem, but the manual says this:

"You must wear the heart rate chest strap to enable heart rate measurement, and the hub transmission icon must be on."

Makes it sound like when the computer is not in "HRM only mode", it needs to see the hub even though the hub has nothing to do with transmission / reception of HR data. Wierd.

That said, I had the rest of the issues you noted, and sent mine to Saris. It was water damage, and they totally replaced the internals with a more water resistant design. Took about 10 business days once they received it. They also replaced my old receiver with the shark fin.

It's been fine since, and the rep I spoke to at Saris said they have yet to receive a unit with the new internals back due to water damage in the hub, so that's reassuring. Not sure how long they've been out there though...

I'd send it back for the update.
