L5 Day followed by L4 Day ?
My target race for this season will be the State Titles at the end of September and I'm adding just a bit more intensity into the mix in my upcoming training block.
Unfortunately, do to (very) limited time during the week I'm looking at doing an L5 session on a Tuesday (say 3-4*5:00@L5 followed by 2*10:00@L4), the tried and trusted L4 (2-3*20:00@L4) on the Wednesday, then another L5 day on Friday (say 6-7*2:00 or 3:00@L5). All these sessions will be done on a trainer (just like RapDaddyo ;) )
Is this a realistic/feasible mix for a 3 week block followed by a recovery week ?
I had considered spacing the sessions out on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday (as I've done in the past) but now there's often club racing on the weekends or a long hard club ride, so I figure Monday's are best for recovery.
Any suggestions ?

I am not sure if you'll be able to observe a steady pattern of 3weeks hard, 1week ez, because in my opinion, it's the presence or absence of weekend race that will determine the overall difficulity level of the following week.
I think your plan is not too difficult. It's realistic.
That being said, the emphasis is put on L5 development. I say that because every L5 workout comes after a day off, and the only L4 workout is done with 'second hand' legs. I'd go with this combination only if a you had developped the L4 for several weeks before this new phase.

I did a few weeks of a similar routine (minus the recovery week) earlier in the season, with good results. As long as I didn't exceed ~125 TSS/d I had no trouble completing the 3-day block. If 3 days of back-to-back intensity is new to you, I'd suggest starting a little conservative on the TSS side the first week, and then adding another rep here and there in subsequent weeks until you find your TSS limit. If you manage your TSS within your tolerable limit, then I don't really think recovery weeks are necessary, but that's up to you.

Sounds like a good plan. I agree with frenchy about monitoring your daily/weekly TSS numbers and how you feel on the 2nd and (especially) the 3rd day of your Tu/We/Th workouts. The 2nd point is that I wouldn't expect to see any direct results from the increased intensity right away. It may take a month to begin to see the effects because you'll be carrying more residual fatigue into each workout. Trainer workouts are very efficient, aren't they?;)

Thanks guys for your input, its really appreciated :D
So it looks like its an achievable plan, and I don't plan to race during the three week block (but plans change ;) so its 'full steam ahead'

I've been doing at least 2*L4 sessions each week, plus racing, for the past 8 weeks or so :)

That's what I'm planning for :) After I finish that 3 week block, that leaves about 3 weeks (including a recovery week, until the race :D

Absolutely :D ....BTW, happy birthday ;)

BTW, happy birthday ;)Thanks. I'm still trying to figure out what ride to do on my birthday. One option is a 90-mile ride with ~5K' of climbing. Another option is a solo 5-hr century. A third option is to race the city buses from the north end of Las Vegas Blvd to the south end. It's a piece of cake when they have to pick up passengers. But, early in the morning when they don't have to make many stops it's a challenge. All of which has to take into consideration a century on Saturday (Cool Breeze). Decisions, decisions...:D

When doing blocks like this I personally find it easier to do the L5 on the day after L4, especially if I can feel the day before in my legs. Probably something to do with not having to concentrate as long. I believe I picked up this tidbit from the Morris book.
