View Full Version : FTP pattern???
I have charted my mean max power chart from the beginning of the season till now. With a 7 days point data plot. I noticed my 60 minutes np tends to drop or dip for every 7 to 8 weeks. The first dip took place in the week of 2/14. The next week my 60np went up to 226 and peaked at 243 around the week of March 17. The second dip was around 4/15 with a 60np of 213. And 60np went back up the next week to 236 and peaked at 243 around early June. The third dip was so happen to be the week before Housatonic race. Obviously, the next week my 60np went back up again in the 240 range. Today I have my fourth dip, 60np 215w. The only good thing is that I did 3 sessions between 20 minutes to 25 minutes intervals. 1 hard 5 minutes interval. I though my first session, 25 minutes, would have a higher FT. It turns out it wasn't the case despite I tried to keep my power range in the 270 range on the flat. Maybe didn't go hard enough when the course got easier. I have been resting a lot for the past 2 weeks in order to avoid the feeling of burning out. I stilll have 3 races to do before the end of the season.
Based on this FTP pattern, I should expect my FTP to go back up again the next week???? Those dips are the result of my body coming back from a longer rest period???
Sounds like it. Do you have a regular testing protocol every rest week, or are you just using race/training data?
Best for you would be to notice when it peaks, and work backwards to see what training phase/cycle you performed to have this peak. Use this training form to get ready for your next peak.
Uhh, I haven't played with my CP WKO+ software, how many plots can you get on your MMP chart? I only have two: season and last 28 days. I'll have to look at this when I get home.
Personally, I wouldn't pay much attention to these 'dips' unless you were continually testing for 60' power. Unless you are doing exactly the same training (not to mention doing exactly the same races with exactly the same tactics, etc) I'd have a hard time finding any significance in these fluctuations.
If you wanted to look for a pattern, you might look at 20' power or power for the longest interval you typically do on a consistent basis in a consistent manner.
Rest week testing protocol??? Not that I know of since every time I am out working on threshold power I just train. Each ride is more or less testing. Most of these 60np data are from racing and longer training ride.
How many data points? For the dates, I have it set from 10/05 to the end of the season. Data points set to 7 days since I want to keep track my power output week by week. You can do month by month, 28 days. I have the chart to plot also my 5 minutes, 1 minutes, 30sec, and 10 sec powers.

I agree with Peter 100%.
