that one was in the days of no padding required. These days there are more UCI rules about safety in TT helmets. That one Jan has on is no safer than an ice cream bucket.

Pre-crash testing for TT lids, I believe. Basically a plastic fairing.

You should set your bike up to the position that feels most 'neutral' and relaxed. Takes some time, and you have to listen carefully to the signals and adjust accordingly.
That kneecap pain thing usually comes from an imbalance between your giant vastis lateralis (or ITB's if you will) muscle and the tiny little quad on the inside of your knee (what the hell is its name again?). It can be managed, but you need patience, good advice, and a training program that doesn't load you up to much until you have it under control.
This all explains why when I went from a steep angled bike with zero setback post to classic Merckx geometry with an inch of setback I was sore behind the knee for a couple of months. All good now though. I still ride the other bike quite a bit too though, guess I should buy a well setback post for that too?

Most likely overextension of the hammies when you first chose the setback position. Stretches the crap outta everything from your forehead to your toes if you retain the same upper body positioning and reach. But like you found out, your body will adapt. It'll be totally screwed up, but it will forgive you! :D
You should normally aim to have similar setup on all your bikes wherever possible. But try doing that if you're racing BMX, ITT, and road races.

...nice pic jock :D :D
Did I bust a farkin mirror or something?
1 week away from the bike with a cold, back to work this week, get the legs turning, gave my back a bit of a twinge at work yesterday, noticable but not too bad, and can barely move today.
Doc says muscle tear lower back. Have to see what the physio says tomorrow but I know there won't be any crits in my weekend. :( :(

ugh tell me and my aching back about it. the MTB is a little lower in the seat than the road bike and comming round after 2 hard racing laps the lower back is screaming for me to stop. If i do a lot of MTBing prior to the event its ok, but otherwise, not so nice :(
do you have a TT set up jock? im gusessing the best way to arrange a TT set up would be seperate seatpost + seat that you can jsut put in + clip on aero bars?

Nope. Couldn't think of anything less interesting to do as a competitive sport than ITT. Vile and boring at the same time.
Time trial bike setups seem to me to get the rider forward of the pedals compared to a 'normal' road bike. If you can do that effectively with just a seatpost/seat and aerobar change then you're a friggin genius in my book.
