Yo Cheapie, what part of the States are you from, and what do you ride?i live in the mid-west (michigan) but spend a ton of time out in oregon. in fact, i'm here now.
i ride a trek 5200 and an ellsworth truth when mtn biking. i love the truth. i'd only do mtn biking if i could do it from my driveway like i can the road bike.

Suffice to say that I'm sick of the endless debate that goes round and round but never quite manages to disappear up it's own sphincter.

17c and fine and sunny here, not bad for mid winter. What's it like down south I wonder (victoria or mexico I'm told)?

That's what I'd say about Sydney (and north), great april-october, mild temps, low humidity, but you sure pay for it during the summer.

About 12C and cloudy in Melbourne at the moment. Rained earlier but acccoring to the weather radar that's now moved on.

Speaking of predictions....what happened to Thunder? His insight into Le Tour would have been good reading.
He's still around. We converse mainly by e-mail now.

Ah Melbourne winters! I miss them actually. Ditched the overcoat 12 months after moving to Sydney and haven't owned one since.

I don't get to ride in temps over about 10C for most of July and August, and considering most of my rides are either early morning or late afternoon, in practice I only get to ride in temperatures over 15C from November to March.

Aha. Unfortunately with a young'un Friday night radio doesn't really fit in well with the feed/bath/bed schedule so I miss out on the good stuff. :(

but when you went to Belgium, did you have a team organised to ride for or did you go over with no fixed plans to see what happens?

Yeah, but at least you have all that cool NZ gear (like, Ground Effects, Icebreaker, et al) to keep you warm. :)

you just gotta go early in summer before 7am. I absolutely hate the cold though. I hate riding in winter, even our poor excuse for one.
Thanks thylo for the link for the lights. It has the current issue of Australian Mountain Bike magazine's review on lights. :D Saved me $10 so I got Australian cyclist instead. Although I think my next ride (somewhere in the next 12months) is gonna be a single speeder mountain bike.

Actually, Melbourne riding in winter is pretty manageable with just a bit of warm gear. Just takes us longer to get ready that you northern types coz we have to layer up.
Ed, did you see the guns on the "girl" pic I posted from cyclingnews? T'was a few pages ago of course at the pace this thread moves.
