1987.....I was in year 9. Trying to tape Roche's TDF win off the crap NBC or CBS coverage bought by Wide World of Sports, intro'd by Ian Chappell and Mike Gibson....2 months after the event.

oh yeah....knew about those ones. No self respecting Pro Tour TTer would be without his bar-end shifters.

having never owned either i dont really know the difference!not much difference. 531 is usually about 200g lighter and a little more flexy. A lightest 531c frames weigh around 1850g

flex wouldnt be a huge issue with me, i dont notice it on any of my bikes on the road or trail, even though i know the dual should in theory be flexy. meh. wierd.
only flex i see is through the wheels / fork and feel it through the BB on the road bike on the trainer when im really cranking it, and i think thats more due to the bike being fixed in place.

Some of those over-size Columbus MAX frames are bricks -- there's a 56cm at my local shop which is about 2150g!!

No, the TT ones are the bar end shifters, these are proper 10s DT shifters that fit on to DT braze-ons. Internally they use the same clicky mechanism as the Bar-ends. They can be switched to friction if you are so inclined.
You can make up a very classic looking steely but still have modern gears. V nice.
