Who has more information about the new wireless powertap SL? Landis used it this tour de france. On bicycling.com I can find this information:
The new PowerTap SLX is 40 grams lighter than the current SL, within 100 grams or so of a Shimano Dura-Ace rear hub. It will use ceramic bearings, a carbon-fiber axle and wireless transmission; it should be available in 2007.

Above was my first post here. I already found some more information on this board. :)
But things I want to know are:
- When will it be available (probably only Saris knows that)?
- When using the 2.4 computer and a non powertap rear wheel how does it measure speed? With a wireless magnet? And Cadance? I read here that the cadance meter is wired?
- Is there a battery inside the hub? And does that battery have to be replaced?
- Is it possible to order directly at saris when you live in The Netherlands, europe?

I haven't checked when it will be available yet, but they've just sent me the pricing for it...
You have to put a strong magnet on a spoked wheel and change the mode on the computer
The current cadence is wired (or virtual cadence). i don't know if the new system has wireless cadence or not?
There is a battery in the hub (two of them). On the current SL it requires changing every ~250 hrs.
Unlikely you can order direct from Saris. We sell to Europe.

What it is the definite name of the wireless SL? SL 2.4 or SLX?
A strong magnet and something on the frame or fork I think? Will that be wireless too?
Thanks,
Paul

The current cadence is wired (or virtual cadence). i don't know if the new system has wireless cadence or not?My understanding is that the SL2.4 remains hard-wired cadence at the crank and virtual cadence from the hub. Don't know about the SLX.

Is their any difference between the SL2.4 and SLX? I thought they are the same.My understanding is that the SL2.4 is the SL hub with 2.4GHz strain gauge transmitters, but no changes to the hub itself. I think the SLX is a different hub (e.g., lighter) and, of course, with the 2.4GHz strain gauges. I anticipate seeing the SL2.4 at Interbike 06 although that's just my expectation and not based on an "official" announcement.

OK, I thought it is the same but with different names. Because otherwise saris will have a lot of different powermeters with not much difference.

Would love to hear review on this new wireless stuff.I haven't ridden it, but I think it will be rock solid. The PT Pro and SL models are wireless. It's just that the strain gauge RF transmitters don't have enough power to reach a computer mounted on the handlebar. The SL2.4 uses 2.4GHz transmitters with enough signal strength to transmit directly to the handlebar. So, you can eliminate the hard-wired receiver on the chain stay.

The problem is that prolonged exposure to 2.4GHz RF appears to cause aberrant testosterone production in a few cases.... :( Consult your physician before use.
